Critic Reviews for The Letdown Season 1

All Critics (11) | Top Critics (5)

Grounded in that reality, the comedic tone is murky-funny: not connecting with your mothers' group, shifting your identity, losing your friends, negotiating your relationship -- these aren't always easy laughs.

Whether you see The Letdown as horror or hilarious is likely to depend on how near you are to the baby-making stage of life. Either way, it's addictive viewing.

Written with humour, heart and truth by Bell and Sarah Scheller and perfectly paced...it offers many pleasures, including Noni Hazlehurst as the seen-it-all-before maternal health nurse and Patrick Brammall, hilarious as a local drug dealer.

Tighter stories, with sharper intersecting plotlines would have given The Letdown a snappier rhythm. When the comedy is a little lacking, however, the drama has its back - and vice versa. The result overall is slight, but utterly endearing.

If you haven't yet caught The Letdown, make sure you do. You won't be. Let down, that is.

Mums are evidently looking to be understood and The Letdown definitely holds a mirror up to middle-class mumdom, bodily fluids and all.

What's clear from the first episode is that it manages to capture the sense of isolation, fear and guilt that can come with parenthood, with strong impact.

This is top-notch TV that deserves a bigger global audience.

Bell is a refreshing comic presence and the story has real things to say about new motherhood.

Raising a new baby isn't a competition, but if it were, the beleaguered Audrey on the Australian comedy import The Letdown... would be losing.

Audience Reviews for The Letdown: Season 1

  • Aug 09, 2019
solo es propaganda en contra de la familia a favor de la ideología de genero y el aborto. Todas las banderas que están matando el centro de europa, como siempre Australia, el inodoro de inglaterra reproduciendo mierda.

Alison Bell serves us a refreshing Australian-comedy with a hint of awkward parent energy. The Letdown perfectly depicts the lives of those others whom aren't quite on top of things. This piece definitely gave me some good laughs. And a taste of parenthood. It's a must watch!

Amazing show...love how real it is...hope there's a new season...watching the first one for the third time already
  • Jun 10, 2018
Fantastic series that presents an honest and hilarious take on new motherhood. Can't wait for second season!
  • Jun 04, 2018
Amazing what passes for entertainment these days. Sad to see that the nuttiness has spread to even Australia.
  • May 01, 2018
Only watched first two episodes. this is really well done, but as a new mom it's rough to watch. A little too close to home and raw, with not quite enough on the comedy side, or even really showing the sweet elements of motherhood. IT made me sad vs. entertained or relieved. :/

Very accurate depiction of being a new mom.
