Critic Reviews for The Letter for the King Season 1

The Letter for the King tests the limits of when distracting entertainment is too familiar to be fun.

Mar 23, 2020 | Full Review…

Written by Will Davies of How to Train Your Dragon, this really is tremendous fun.

Mar 23, 2020 | Rating: 4/5 | Full Review…

Lacking urgency and visual splendor, The Letter for the King attempts a high-speed gallop, but ends up flopping on its belly and rolling around a little.

Mar 20, 2020 | Full Review…

What initially looked like sub-Merlin capering... was transformed by Wilson's heartfelt performance, a villain who looked as if he'd been auditioning for Slipknot and by a JK Rowling-like feeling for the grey areas of human nature.

The Letter For The King may have made a fine two-hour cinematic release, but it gets stretched pretty thin across six episodes.

I fervently wish it had been on when I was 13, or even 16.

Mar 30, 2020 | Full Review…

The show becomes a slog whenever it pans away from the teens and focuses on the adults.

Mar 23, 2020 | Full Review…

The Letter for the King is the rare fantasy series that is focused on kids, but adults will want to watch, too.

Mar 23, 2020 | Full Review…

Netflix's The Letter for the King doesn't break the mold when it comes to the fantasy genre like Game of Thrones did for HBO, but it does tell an engaging story with well-drawn characters worth spending time with.

The Letter for the King will scratch an itch or three for fantasy mavens although The Witcher seems prime to scratch harder.

Mar 20, 2020 | Full Review…

When those two hit the screen The Letter For The King delivers hints that it might have challenged for the Game of Thrones throne. As it is, it's just a cute pretender.

Mar 20, 2020 | Rating: 3/5 | Full Review…

It involves prophecies, magic, heroes, a quest, knights, and kingdoms in peril. All the elements of a medieval tale.

I think it's a good beginning for a less brutal fantasy series. And by less brutal I mean less rape bc there is still a lot of deaths, it's just not as in your face as other series in the genre. Definitely there are areas to be improved, but it's really rare for a first season to be perfect

It's incredible, the story brings emotion till the end, and makes you live very exiting and emotional moments. Impresionant series

Made an account just to recommend this beautiful show. Engaging young cast, LOTR-style New Zealand scope, and ultimately a heartwarming story we really enjoyed. Perhaps a bit young for adult viewers thanks to some cliches in plot and dialogue, but my kids LOVED it (they all want to be knights now!). We are halfway through a second binge!

Episodes 1-4 were entertaining and I was really starting to get into it. The visuals were stunning however the acting was just ok and the diverse case was a bit of a head scratcher. The last 2 episodes really ruined it for me. The big twist was a huge let down and the big showdown was anticlimactic I thought my kids might enjoy it but I won't be showing it due to some inappropriate material that was unnecessarily included. I would pass on this series.

The first episode was actually good.....it went downhill from there. Not horrible but way too many stupid moments to take it seriously at all.

This is not faithful to the books at all. They added magic, completely changed the plot, only to produce yet another forgettable LotR-Wannabe.

YA Fantasy show what high production value. It's a bit cheesy sometimes but less than normal for YA shows and even fantasy shows. It has some cool twists and compelling story. (Btw. It's not GOT, but neither should you compare a YA show to GOT.)

TERRIBLE ! What a truly disappointing, generic, what are you doing show ... I feel bad for the people who created such an amazing world around a god awful cast. There are a couple, as in 2, exceptions. What's worse then the acting is the Directing and Writing. JUST HORRIBLE ! They should be completely ashamed at what they did with so many peoples hard work. ASHAMED !

To anyone reading this before actually watching the series, there are MAJOR SPOILERS in this review, if you don't want any spoilers then don't read this. WATCHING THIS SERIES WAS A WASTE OF TIME. I was completely hooked, although I found quite a bit of this series to be very... poor. It's like watching a soap opera, the acting is horrible, the plot is not so good, everything is kind of awkward, but you can't stop watching. Anyways, I kinda of liked it, I loved Tiuri and the idea that him, someone who everyone looked down on and who has always been weaker and had a rough life, had powers, I was solely watching mostly to see where these powers will get him... BUT... come to find out... it wasn't him who had the powers the entire time? I'm very disappointed. They gave the powers to the very complicated and annoying girl who isn't really special at all. Excellent move, I am now uninterested in watching the rest, Tiuri is basically just a messenger boy with people after him now, no special powers, not as good at combat as the others, not much goes with Tiuri anymore. Tiuri does have a good heart and he is very determined to finish what he started and help others, and he is the most understanding person in out of everyone else, but that's pretty much it. When I found out it was the girl who had the powers the entire time I immediately quit out of Netflix, because wow... I hate when shows pull these types of plot twists. I can no longer stomach watching this show, and I just spent 6 hours watching it when I could've been reading an amazing book, or sleeping, OR doing school work. Waste of time. To anyone who wants to be a movie director and write scripts or whatever has to do with making a movie, PLEASE don't pull shit like this. It pisses off many many people.
