Tv Season Info

In the first and only season of this sitcom, Michael J. Fox portrays Mike Henry, a family man and former news anchor in New York City who left his job to focus on his health and his family. After five years at home, his wife (Betsy Brandt) and kids think it's a good idea for him to go back to work, so they secretly collaborate with his old boss (Wendell Pierce) to orchestrate his return to TV news. Mike then resumes juggling work and being a husband and dad to three kids: recent college dropout Ian (Conor Romero), high-school student Eve (Juliette Goglia) and young Graham (Jack Gore). Meanwhile, an old rival, Susan Rodriguez Jones (Anne Heche), gets a job at Mike's TV station and makes life difficult for him. Guest stars include Fox's real-life wife, Tracy Pollan, as well as Candice Bergen, Charles Grodin and Sting.

Fox hasn't lost his gifts as a sitcom actor, and the other players step up to his level. Though the show doesn't warrant a standing ovation, it deserves warm applause.

Not a breakthrough comedic form, but the welcome return of a familiar TV standout.

Parkinson's is practically a character in NBC's The Michael J. Fox Show, in which the comedian riffs - funnily and affectingly - on his own affliction with the disease.

The show depends to a dismaying degree on jokes about Fox's, and Henry's, condition.

The show has plenty of heart and lots of chuckles. And there's a lot to be said for spending half an hour with an old friend.

With Fox leading a strong cast, his new show has a better than average shot.

The Meta-mix of TV and social reality is a tricky one in this family and workplace sitcom.

The Michael J. Fox Show also manages a far more impressive feat; it upstages the curiosity factor of Parkinson's with a heartfelt, family-centered story that's similarly honest about the ups and downs of life.

I get the feeling NBC's new comedy will figure out exactly what it wants to be and where it wants to go across its first season.

Though the choice to have the characters speak to the camera feels a little tired, the show is quite possibly one of the funniest new comedies of the season, full of small moments that lead to big laughs.
