Critic Reviews for The Missing Season 2

All Critics (26) | Top Critics (17)

Baptiste wants to give them a happy ending, without ignoring the haunting lessons. By embracing him - as well as an ambitious premise - The Missing improves in Season 2. And where they go from here remains enticingly unknown.

The Missing is a feast -- albeit the most chilly, emotionally devastating feast ever -- for armchair sleuths.

Feb 10, 2017 | Rating: A- | Full Review…

It's that kind of quick-witted mystery storytelling that allows The Missing to stand out against other pulpy whodunits. It keeps you guessing, and keeps you watching.

Feb 8, 2017 | Full Review…

This is elegant, bleak television, redolent of peak Scandi-noir thrillers like The Killing and The Bridge. It might not have been pleasant to uncover this frozen world... but it has been gripping from the start.

Season 2 is the lesser in just about every way. It perks to life at the end, though... And Mr. Karyo's indomitable Baptiste, shrugging in the face of indifference and opposition, should still appeal to any Philip Marlowe fans out there.

The Missing is a fast-paced, tantalizing jigsaw puzzle that successfully juggles multiple timelines, locations and characters, each of which has a connection to the main case.

The eight-episode Starz-BBC series... takes you to some very unexpected places and is very much worth watching.

As it usually goes with mysteries, a viewer's knowledge is best kept minimal before heading into The Missing Season 2, but know that these episodes will leave you with your jaw on the floor at every turn.

Feb 9, 2017 | Rating: 4.5/5 | Full Review…

The Missing's second season is quite considered about its structure, and it's rarely smug about how clever it is: In fact, when the pieces start to click together and the real story unfolds, it becomes clear that the sophomore season isn't smug at all.

The (Williams) brothers are to be applauded for making complex television that requires viewer commitment to a bewildering jumble of plots, time zones and locations. Fortunately, it is a winning combination.

Stick with it, because it gets easier and it promises to be one hell of an edge-of-your-seat story.

The Missing on BBC1 is like televisual Sudoku, yet it is utterly compelling, brilliantly acted and written, and a match for the much-lauded Scandinavian noir of recent years.

    Excellent seat-gripping drama.

Excellent, Gripping from start to finish
  • Sep 18, 2018
This is an edge-of-your-seat drama. Had to binge watch it but even read the ending online, and went and watched the last 2 episodes. One of the best shows out there. Haven't watched Season 1, because I think Season 2 is probably a lot better.

Season 2 is an excellent season!! While some final circumstances are sad (yet realistic for TV), the finale leaves next-to-no questions. Really done well - bravo! The Baptiste character is's hoping his surgery is considered a success and we see him in Season 3...after all, he did count down to three in French. ;)
  • Oct 04, 2017
I was actually a fan of the Baptiste character after watching season 1 but I must admit his act becomes a bit tiresome and annoying in season 2. It also became a bit annoying with the constant change in timelines in season 2, which it did in season 1 but much more so in season 2. All in all it was entertaining and worth watching, if not a bit far-fetched and convoluted.

Season 2 is just so bloody good. Also loved Season 1 but there was just something about the 2nd season that was captivating. Please work your greatness on another season. Love Love Love!
  • Apr 18, 2017
Just binge watched the entire 2nd season in three days. First 6 episodes were pretty slow which made the suspense drag. Switches back and forth between time lines every other scene. Acting is commendable, and I won't spoil the plot but even though technically it's possible, it's not really believable that it could happen. Just your typical good cop figuring out the crime but nobody else believes him. If it was the FBI investigating the case it would have been solved years earlier. The last two episodes were pretty stellar though!

It was worth the wait for Season 2...Superb acting, amazing pacing, please tell me there is going to be a Season 3!
