"The Muppets" brings the classic characters into modern culture in a way that feels fresh, distinctive, even a little dangerous.

The thing I love the most about the show, though, is the way it tackles the concept of adult humor in a family-friendly setting.

Anything said by a Muppet is instantly funnier than the same thing said by a flesh-and-blood human, making the Muppets slightly funny. It's a good thing that The Muppets happens to be charming then, turning it into a crowd pleaser.

I couldn't give a flying frog about their FAKE romance troubles, but the show is fun and worth a watch or two.

May come across as too tame for viewers used to more spice and cynicism in their sitcoms. For them, there's always the new season of The League. For the rest of us? Save us seats next to Stadler and Waldorf.

There's enough trademark Muppet tomfoolery and hilarity in The Muppets for us to get by, but the show will succeed only if it continues to mine that emotional vein.

As it stands, this is a decent Muppets cover band that will keep you occupied until the real rock-stars show up.

It's The Muppets. Do you really need any other reason to tune in?

In fact, it's kind of bad now and still really charming to watch in most scenes. That's a good enough start for a show based on some of that sweet, sweet recognizable IP.

The Muppets goes for the jokes over the sensationalized drama, it's a riot, so here's hoping they lean more heavily on the comedy as the season progresses.

On a base level, it's captivating to see the Muppets interact with the real world in such an unprecedented way.

There's still hope for this show, and ABC will doubtlessly give it some time to find its feet. But what it needs to find it its softer side.

This is a real tentative recommendation, honestly. I can't say The Muppets pilot wasn't funny. It was funny, but it was also...mean-spirited? Too cynical? I don't know.

This approach is clever, giving The Muppets a modern update.

It is as clever and well constructed as many series whose casts are entirely human (and an improvement on the pilot, released to the press early in the summer).

It's quite possible that in the weeks to come, The Muppets will satisfy the way we want it to satisfy. It's quite possible that this weird and wonky thing will grow into itself, and/or we will grow into it.

The trademark "Muppet Mayhem" is now more like the occasional mirth. That's middle age for you.

It's still magical to watch these characters navigate the real world -- as dispiriting as it may be to see them reflect it.

These first two episodes are watchable enough, with next week's half-hour hitting on a fairly novel way to short-circuit a gooey Groban-Miss Piggy relationship that calms her tempestuous temperament but compromises her show.

The Muppets moves at a fairly fast clip, with plenty of rough-and-tumble slapstick for the youngsters and an overall tongue-in-fist sensibility that should tickle most willing adults.
