In the cutthroat world of a commercial TV news, 1986, ambitious reporter Dale Jennings and notoriously “difficult” news star Helen Norville find themselves paired together. Covering an extraordinary chain of news events from the Challenger Disaster, to Halley’s Comet, to the AIDS crisis, Dale and Helen’s personal and professional lives begin to intertwine. This is a terrific show about ambition, egos, office gossip and the thrill of covering breaking news when it’s all hands on deck and everyone’s driven by a sense of urgency. Go to Full Review

Some shows set in newsrooms don't work because they feel too worthy. This series doesn't fall into that trap because it is set right back in the '80s. You end up getting sucked into how it looks at news reporting in the pre-internet era. Go to Full Review

... Has [a] soapy feel at times, which perhaps prevents it from quite reaching the heights as an Antipodean successor to Broadcast News. Go to Full Review

It’s very smart about the newsroom politics and how the media looked at stories back then. Go to Full Review

andrew k @Andrewjp Jan 17 So glad that I saw the latest season showing on my Netflix timeline. Started season 1 and finished all 3 seasons very quickly. The acting is sublime , across the board. Quite a breathtaking series beautifully depicting life in the mid to late 80's and the challenges of the television and news network profession. How shows like this dont walk away with Emmy's and Golden Globes is beyond me and a reflection on how they actually make the nominations. See more Mike W Jan 5 Top notch series, all three seasons. If you're tired of American news media movies about the noble TV journalists who "seek the truth," this is totally different. It doesn't judge them one way or another and isn't even about that - it's a drama about one particular TV news station and all that goes on inside - characters and their conflicts and challenges, friction with each other, abmitions, office romance. Gripping and perfectly paced. See more Michael B. @KVD1969 Oct 8 In 1986 Melbourne, rising reporter Dale Jennings is paired with glamorous but troubled news anchor Helen Norville. As they cover the year’s biggest stories, their unlikely partnership evolves into a powerful yet fragile bond. Behind the newsroom spotlight, both struggle with personal demons, media politics, and the price of ambition. See more L. F Sep 26 Such a good show! Interesting characters, brilliantly acted, with a well considered script and fantastic production. I find Australian shows so refreshing to watch and this is a real example of how to pull audiences in based on plot and characters alone. Excellent! See more Tantan N 03/09/2023 If I could give this a million stars I would. Acting is fantastic, writing is fantastic. It's bloody brilliant, so realistic and captivating from every actor right down to the Extras. I've watched it a few times. I have found some character mistakes though but the average punter probably won't notice it. I won't write them here. See if you can find it for yourself. Hehe.
