The FBI's Harold Harper is called on to hunt him down because of his complicated past with the rogue fugitive. When Chase proves to be more difficult to apprehend than the authorities expected, a highly trained special ops contractor is sent to pursue him as well. What to Know

Critics Consensus

Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow remain a compulsively watchable pair, but there's a nagging sense that The Old Man has lost a step in this overextended sophomore season.

Yet it’s hard to shake the feeling of a tidy limited series being tediously strung out. Go to Full Review

The Old Man is bursting with puzzling alliances and long-buried secrets -- but the biggest mystery of all is why we should care about any of it. Go to Full Review

If we lived in a culture that was interested in nurturing longer television seasons, perhaps season two of “The Old Man” could reach new heights. In the end, this season shows a lot of promise but ultimately continues to spiral downhill as it goes on. Go to Full Review

Andy N @Blunk Sep 30, 2026 It sounds like Season 3 was cancelled, and that seems for the best as I've made it to the mid-point of Season 2. It just doesn't work. The humanization of the Afghani characters is actually really interesting and almost works, but the bad dialogue throughout these episodes just kills the show. The season is essentially carried by Alia Shawkat. She does a fantastic job as the daughter, given what she has to work with. There is no pacing. No momentum. It all gets progressively sillier and uninteresting. But the worst part is the really precious writing. What may have worked in a novel is just excruciating as every character becomes a tonally flat device from which the same writing voice talks to itself. The pretentious college campus tone just doesn't translate well amidst the mountains of Afghanistan. See more Leon P @RT48041553 Aug 10, 2026 Season 2 amplifies what bothered me in Season 1. What began as a grounded thriller increasingly feels like a tale about almost legendary people whose personal relationships somehow shape everything around them. There is too much talking and too little action, while the story becomes progressively harder to believe. More importantly, my engagement with Chase and sympathy for him continued to fade. He is presented as a principled, idealistic warrior, yet his loyalties and objectives seem remarkably dependent on his personal attachments. That makes him look less like an exceptional soldier or spy and more like an exceptionally capable fighter and survivor whose personal judgment always comes first—even when his choices create danger for people close to him. Jeff Bridges remains excellent. Ironically, his performance uncovers Chase's personality so thoroughly that the better I understood the character, the less I admired him. See more Ftld F @Fank_B. See more Vinyl C @RT31673325 Nov 3, 2025 Most disappointing to learn that Season 3 was cancelled. We felt that Season 2 extended and deepened the first series in intriguing and engaging ways. In particular, the growth and development of the daughter’s character was riveting. Yes, the plot was reasonably complex, but it was not that difficult to keep up, given the helpful 'What’s gone before' intros. The geopolitical elements were far from far-fetched and the interplay between the two elderly leads fascinating. Sad that the company shied away from an intelligent, contemporary thriller. Guess it’s that dumbing down process. Again. See more peter h @RT82419994 Oct 5, 2025 As expected Old Man Season 2 slides into the incredibly stupid in Ep 2 when our American heroes (Emily and crew) decide to save the life of the evil protagonist after he's shot in the stomach at close range in the Afghan wilderness. Not only would he be dead anyway within 30 minutes, any sane person would have finished the job with a few more mercy bullets. Then attempted to go home to the good old USA. But NO, this would have been too logical and so the whole series slides further in the abyss of American stupidity See more Mark O @RT04940304 Aug 25, 2025 One of the best drama shows on Disney plus.
