I was hoping that this series would be a Sci-Fi drama, but it is actually a soap-opera with a Sci-Fi "coating". I watched the entire first season, even after realizing that it wasn't the type of series that I would normally watch. I have to admit that the acting, production values, and direction all make for a very slick production. The down side of the series for me is that it centers on four female characters that act irrationally. The lead female character is the only one whose motives and actions make any sense. The other three major female characters act as though they are addicted to a drug, rather than being affected by a dating app. The entire plot would do well as a daytime soap opera drama. Also, there are the tropes and memes currently popular with production companies that have a particular political agenda, and viewpoint. It is not one that I agree with, but I'm sure that there will be viewers that do. The only thing I really enjoyed, was listening to actress Lois Chimimba's great Scottish brogue. I also think her character is the most endearing in the series. I have to assume that there will be a second season of this series, but I won't watch it.

Okay. The premise is a bit hard to accept. The story was less about "The One" premise than about the drama over a murder investigation.
  • Mar 13, 2021
Full of plot holes, police are written as second rate PI's and although I thought on the whole the acting was fine, some performances (particularly the main character's) just take you out of it.

The concept of genetic matching has good storyline potential but The One fails misarably to leverage that concept. Instead we end up with an unremarkable piece of work that leaves the audience wondering why this series was even made in the first place.

Don't understand the negative reviews, binged watched it and was upset when it ended
  • Mar 13, 2021
This series has no point of view. The characters are so thin and the plot lines are trivial. It feels like hard labor or to get through each episode.

The book is so much better. The TV show is better as background noise as the story line is just all over the place.
