Tv Season Info

In Season Two, the ship's crew will meet never-before-seen aliens and face old adversaries, the Krill. They'll make first contact with a new civilization and revisit the planet Moclus. ED (MacFarlane) and KELLY's (Adrianne Palicki) relationship also will take a new turn -- all of which points to a season filled with adventure, mystery, romance and, as always, some poignant social commentary.

Critic Reviews for The Orville Season 2

All Critics (14) | Top Critics (2)

[It] may not want to be a space spoof, but if it's able to fully evolve into a character-driven dramedy that just happens to be set in space, then that's adding something unique to the genre. And that could make "The Orville" a show worth watching.

Irreverent, slightly obnoxious, but time-drainingly watchable.

Season 2 is occasionally a bumpy ride for its changes in story and pacing, but it's well worth the journey.

When The Orville dials down the goofy comedy, it can hold its own with any of the more traditional science fiction properties out there.

Last night, I was emotionally moved by an episode about a character's pornography addiction-a concept so ridiculous that only some likeable characters and impeccable writing can pull off.

Jan 24, 2019 | Full Review…

An understated, character-driven second season premiere that functions more like a day-in-the-life starship story than anything involving aliens or galactic peril.

There is a sensitivity, skill and structural balance at work here which demonstrates what continues to make The Orville so special.

Jan 8, 2019 | Full Review…

A surprising follow up to a Season 1 storyline... It's also welcoming, and another point of evidence that Seth McFarlane's Fox series is more than a parody of Star Trek.

Jan 4, 2019 | Full Review…

The Orville decided to play it safe rather than deliver some edgy material in its second season premiere.

Jan 2, 2019 | Full Review…

Goofy, busy, and with a juvenile bent, but ultimately enjoyable.

Jan 2, 2019 | Rating: 3.5/5 | Full Review…

If the season 2 premiere of The Orville is any indication... [the show] has found its footing and maybe its identity in telling smaller, more character-driven stories, that better serve its sometimes confounding mix of sincerity and irreverence.

The Orville is playing to it strengths right out of the gate. If any of the tonal wonkiness of the first season was off-putting for anyone, this second season debut seems to be sending a clear message: This show is a sitcom first.

Audience Reviews for The Orville: Season 2

  • Aug 27, 2020
The second season was not quite as good as the first season, with a few too many internally focused episodes early on and a couple of mid season efforts that were a bit below the average the show built up in the first season. It is still very good, and the Krill focused episodes especially are excellent. The second half of the season is also in general stronger than the first half.

The closest thing to star trek since Enterprise. The show does a great job of balancing comedy and trek-style adventures and mysteries. It's not perfect and that doesn't matter, the epsidoes are enjoyable and unique. Fuck Alex Kurtzman. Fuck new Trek.

This show is great on every level! Can't wait for more, counting the days!
  • Aug 14, 2020
Even better than the first season. Taking us back to the Golden Age of Next Generation Trek.
  • Aug 11, 2020
Never thought I would be saying this, but this is an amazing show. It's the only thing that has even come close to star trek in recent time. When I saw the trailers, I easy interested and didn't even watch season 1 until season 2 was out. Wow what a surprise and it's getting better!

Not quite as good as the first season, but pretty great overall. At least the critics finally got a clue and started giving this show at least some of the credit it deserves.

Improves on S1 and becomes even more character driven. Whilst still retaining its lighthearted tone, the humour is turned down a notch and the show is now a fully committed character driven piece. Yes, it's a homage to Star Trek and will draw comparisons but I think people should stop doing it. ST TNG finished in 1994 so there's a whole generation of viewers who have most likely not seen it so The Orville could be their introduction to this genre and if so they're being treated well.

Brilliant. No political lecturing here, just a well written show with a cast you grow to like and good fun.
  • Jul 24, 2020
The show gets better and better.

After finding its foothold midway through the first season, the second season of the Orville maintains its balance of Trek-like space drama storytelling and comedy with a shiny polish. The show's characters are used very well and the CGI is very impressive. Star Trek fans will absolutely enjoy this season and probably watch it again.
