What to Know

Critics Consensus

Somewhere on the edges of this sci-fi vision is a compelling narrative, but The Peripheral's single-minded focus on its lofty ideas comes at the expense of character or coherence.

The lengths that the artists, along with the creator, the production designer, art directors, and cinematographers, have gone to in order to truly make a futuristic London and an almost futuristic rural American town is jaw-dropping. Go to Full Review

MBI M @MNZGamerX May 8 From the very first episode you are drawn in and captivated by the imagining of an extraordinary futuristic world. The show certainly had great promise and potential. Anyone interested in sci-fi and gaming would be naturally attracted to this serial. An obvious problem at the outset of the serial is that the main character Flynne Fisher who does appear fairly intelligent is deliberately made stupid so the narrative can move forward. It is fortunate that Flynne is surrounded by capable and intelligent people like her brother and his buddies who are military veterans and have her back as she goes on a quest from the future. Sadly, Flynne is strong willed and stubborn and continues to do stupid things and forces those around her to also make mistakes making the main character quite irritating which isn't a good thing for a serial ... The casting of the Aelita character could also have been better ... Aside from these minor irritants the show was brilliant but studio politics etc... See more Kyle M @RT79073636 May 4 This is the kind of show where the writers inform us that GirlBoss is better at gaming than her brother, because she, being GirlBoss, "has more empathy and compassion". While at the same time having GirlBoss being completely oblivious to the fact that her crippled war-veteran brother is selling his pain meds to pay for their mother's cancer treatments. See more G Y @TheG-Way Jan 15 A bold sci-fi storyline at times seems vulnerable to falling apart, but manages to keep the characters and narrative together long enough to tighten up into an encaging direction by the end of season 1, and builds excitement for what season 2 may bring. It’s a shame that Prime decided to cancel it a few months after renewing it due to the ongoing strikes at the time, especially amongst lesser original Prime shows getting renewed. See more Malik D. @Princevon Dec 24 Absolutely great show ruined only by the fact that there's only one season and it ends on a cliff hanger. Great show though. See more Jonah H @storees Oct 4 Love this show. Prime is REALLY good at canceling solid scifi and fantasy. I hope great show runners of those genres stop pitching to prime because of that. See more David C @RT69029367 Sep 25 It looks wonderful, the concept is high and interesting. That's where it all stops dead. This is a one dimensional flat tire. The dialogue is so clunky it's embarrassing to think of the idiots who wrote this stuff having jobs as writers. Then there's the casting/setting. Mortez doesn't even get the chance to act as she has to wander around with this accent that she, nor anyone else in the cast seems capable of speaking. Awful. Considering the amount of money spent on this production, getting basics right would seem a vital step. Like, it's not important this is set in the Blue Mountains. Just set it somewhere the actors can speak without sounding like idiots. But then, with that pitiful dialogue and non-existent character development they'll still likely sound like fucktards.
