Critic Reviews for The Pharmacist Miniseries

All Critics (7) | Top Critics (4)

The popularity of easily digestible true-crime narratives has led to a glut of stories such as this one, ambitious and rote and unable to indulge in the skepticism or the soul-searching that subjects as consuming as the opioid epidemic merit.

A surprising, thoroughly compelling documentary... A great testament to the power of the implacable pest.

The Pharmacist raises an impeccably important global issue, but its power as television all comes from one individual.

The Pharmacist shows how sheer determination, fueled by grief and anger, can drive one man to affect change, even if it's in the face of a corrupt bureaucracy or a massive corporation.

[An] unbelievable but true story. Wow.

Although that could be the docuseries's fatal flaw, it isn't: What The Pharmacist lacks in suspense and speed it makes up for in heart, emotional resonance, and ultimate gratification.

Wow! One of the best documentary series that I've ever seen. Powerful, inspiring, hard to stop watching. It's only 4 episodes but it's so worth watching. Ties the crack epidemic to the opioid epidemic and how it hurts the kids, parents, dealers, everyone.

Horrific, sad, fascinating. A story about a man taking on the opioid epidemic alone. Amazing. 100% recommended.

My hero!! If we had more people like Danny maybe more lives would have been saved.

No words adequate to describe the importance of this documentary. Extraordinarily important for a thousand reasons not the least of which is accurately telling the story of OxyContin leading to heroin leading to 400,000+ deaths from overdose, lawsuits against Purdue Pharma, the Sackler family. 5-Star important!

Dan is my hero: I love his faith, wife, daughter, son, intelligence (especially emotional), determination, and HEART. How in the UNIVERSE did this man end up in the St. Bernard Parish as an answer (note, not "the" answer) to the poverty and drug crisis hitting New Orleans? All the characters are TRUE in the way reality molds us. A special shout out to Shane Madding, a bigger hero my mind b/c of what she went through to get there. Best of all - no black or white - just complex people: some are good, others in between, some bad. Do I trust Jeffrey Hall, who he says he is now? Hmmm. But, murder at 16, 13 years in prison - I pray and hope for him.

Gripping, disturbing and real. I felt his pain. I was completely engaged with this series.

Personal tragedy unravels National epidemic with compassion, spirituality and humanity. Essential viewing and a mature docu-series win for Netflix.

An amazing watch. It really brings to light how the opioid crisis began, and one mans fight in honor of his son. Hopefully with this documentary more awareness and discussions can take place, and we can find solutions moving forward.

The tale of a man who should inspire us all to fight for what is right. The Directors of Purdue Pharma should be treated like the drug dealers they surely are and be prosecuted. Their wealth should be treated as proceeds of crime and taken from them due to the misery that they have caused through their greed.

Thanks, Chris Ehlert, for the recommendation. Such a worthwhile binge on our snowy GA Saturday.
