Critic Reviews for The Promised Neverland Season 1

CloverWorks studio's adaptation of the manga with the same name wants to challenge the notion that horror doesn't work in animation, with a story that is as terrifying as it is emotional and simply adorable.

Oct 6, 2020 | Full Review…

The style adds to the creeping dread of these scenes in a way that isn't found in the manga. Even with all that, Emma, who is effectively the lead protagonist, is a breath of fresh air.

A narrative that keeps you guessing the whole way through... The show's gorgeous animation and unique character designs help it stand out even more.

The Promised Neverland doesn't quite live up to the hype just yet, but for all its flaws it is still a rock solid and entertaining thriller that provides a new spin on Shonen content.

Audience Reviews for The Promised Neverland: Season 1

The Promised Neverland is amazing. It was very different experience for me. The first season is more of a psychological thriller. The plot development is great. The main characters are very smart and cautious, and their opponents are equally as cunning. I am really interested in knowing what will happen in upcoming seasons.

This show is amazing. The animation is great and it's a pretty good combo of CGI and hand drawn. The Characters are incredibly smart and the show has some extremally likeable characters. This show knows how to be sad and sometimes funny and it has one great Plot twist at the end! I cannot wait for a second season!

Tiene buenos personajes, una trama atrapante y adictiva, tiene incoherencias, pero es genial su desarrollo, que quieres que los episodios no terminen nunca, espero la segunda temporada

Season 1 is up there with an ALL TIME GREAT anime experience for me personally. I am not one of those people who throws 5/5 often I reserve it only for the best of the best and this anime fits that description. This show is just the right amount of creepy without being terrifying and off putting. The pacing moves incredibly fast but at the same time it isn't a blur that makes the show confusing. Its strange because so much can happen in such a small time that that its like 2 seasons of content crammed into 1 but its all so satisfying and feels crafted with purpose. Not a single wasted moment. The writing is masterfully done as it is smart and logical. Characters don't do stupid things that leave you frustrated and scratching your head as to "why?" just to progress the plot. Its a smart show for adults that enjoy a clever cat vs. mouse game. I can't wait for season 2. I'm putting this up there with my personal favorite psychological / horror thrillers like Death Note (cliche I know) and Pscyho-pass for the way it makes the viewer think and question without being lost and confused. Go watch this right this second!

It has a really good plot and thing that you wouldn't expect to happen happen. 10/10 recommend if you want to watch a new horror anime. (sorry if I spelt some words incorrectly I am very stupid)
