...the environmental stuff is so predictable – young eco-protesters: good, posh man who fronts the oil company: bad – and so clunkily done that it drags the story down. The ending, if you stick it out for five episodes, is pure cheese. Go to Full Review

This is a lot to dramatise convincingly, and some of the fanciful flourishes land as a flourish too far. The ambitions are high but in the end The Rapture remains serviceable Sunday evening stuff. Go to Full Review

The series is at its best when the two are locked in mental combat, Bethany doing her best to injure and taunt her doctor with cruel jibes. Go to Full Review

All of this comes together to make Madeley (Nightsleeper, Years and Years) look right at home in her first lead role. On the evidence of this, it won’t be too long before another comes along, much like the next heatwave. Go to Full Review
Barbara Ellen Observer (UK) Aug 4, 2026
The sometimes excitable plot is nicely earthed by the pairing of Madeley and Amarteifio, who bounce off each other with more than a little feminist swagger. Go to Full Review

...The Rapture does an excellent job of keeping all these balls in the air and the tension and sense of unease build remorselessly. By the end of the first episode, you’ll be thoroughly gripped. Go to Full Review

L. F @RT68678650 Aug 17, 2026 Really refreshing change from the usual "body on beach" type stories. I'm generally not much of a sci-fi fan, but this was just on the right side of things for me to enjoy. The acting was decent and there were a few good twists and turns. Sadly, the ending felt a bit rushed but, overall, this was something different and it kept my interest throughout. See more Be R @BeBeRoberts Aug 16, 2026 Terrible acting pretty much across the board.. CGI was awful, plot is kind of captivating but doesn’t make a huge amount of sense. See more WRENFORD L @Redredred Aug 11, 2026 I was intrigued by the first episode, then tried to connect with the plot and the characters in the following 4 episodes, but found myself being distracted because the plot was ridiculous nonsense and Ruth Madeley as a clinical psychologist was unconvincing, she would be better suited as a dustbin lorry driver from Bolton. I mentally switched off many times. A psychologist tends to be a intellectual, deep thinking character not a northern fish-wife in a wheelchair. None of it was plausible. Utter tripe!
