Nathan Fielder returns to television to explore the lengths one person will go to reduce the uncertainties of everyday life. Fielder stars as the director of rehearsals, which are elaborately staged scenarios re-creating parts of ordinary people's lives that are meant to help them prepare for a big moment in their lives. A construction crew, a legion of actors and seemingly unlimited resources all come together to allow ordinary people to rehearse for these moments by giving them the opportunity to play them out in carefully crafted simulations of Fielder's own design.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Never fear, Nathan Fielder is here to solve air travel safety and further his frustrated quest for human connection in a second Rehearsal that's just as audacious, cringey, and uproariously funny as the first.

What the show ultimately stages is an unsentimental rejection of the entire edifice of authenticity, and the cult of identity it inspires. Go to Full Review

What makes this series an improvement on the first is that it is consistently and deliberately laugh-out-loud funny. Go to Full Review

“The Rehearsal” develops into a sideways anthropological treatise on pilots, who turn out to be a reserved and lonely bunch. Go to Full Review

Suggesting reality TV while evading it at every turn, this show was awkward, absurd and unexpectedly moving in its ever-expanding interrogations of the limitations and possibilities of performance. Go to Full Review

The second six-part series of The Rehearsal delivers a fist bump of pure left-field genius. It’s the work of Canadian comedian Nathan Fielder, who I’m starting to suspect is the David Lynch of factual comedy. Go to Full Review

Me fascina que en una época en la que los “cómo se hizo”, “qué pensé” y “qué sentí” son campaña de promoción—, sepamos tan poco (o nada) sobre los mecanismos de producción de la propuesta más metatelevisiva que haya existido. Go to Full Review

Numair H @NumairHaider Sep 4, 2026 I was a fan of Nathan for You, and loved the unique comedy Nathan brought, molded around his awkwardness and people around him. The HBO show continues, but on a bigger and much deeper level. It being a rehearsal of real-life events in a person’s life, and the sheer effort Nathan goes for is insane. Be it real of scripted, it caught me off-guard and I’m a bigger fan of Nathan than ever before. Discussing many topics that are never really shown on TV, be it major or minor incidents, to even the incident that affects nearly all countries on a similar level, it ended on a high note. Where I expected the usual awkward comedy, I saw a very motivating and inspiring Season 2 ending which is very hard to do nowadays. PROS: - Amazing plot/writing. - Very Human Moments. - Insane lengths and production. - Charmingly awkward comedy. - Great high note to end S2. CONS: - Unique comedy not many people like. See more Tammy D @RT56789042 Jul 30, 2026 Loved S2 of that show, would probably even say it has a solid argument as possibly Nathan Fielder's best season of any of his shows, but I'm not surprised that he's still underrated since his style is like an acquired taste of comedy. See more Jordan F. @RT84880039 Jul 24, 2026 Nathan fielder. Is a genius. And also maybe diagnosed with some other mental or behavioral health disorders. But that's okay because I love him and think you should too. See more Dustin S. @Dustin574 Apr 18, 2026 Nathan has made something sort of like profound comedy. I was entertained and laughed plenty, but at the same time recognized that this should literally be used to train pilots. See more Tom F @RT55173143 Mar 12, 2026 Nathan Fielder has crafted something weirdly special here. See more Brendan B. @pbbrown1112 Feb 14, 2026 Mind-bending nonstop laughs. Nathan Fielder is a genius. See more Read all reviews
