Critics Consensus

Dark and Dadaist, The Ren & Stimpy Show pioneered an animation aesthetic that was undeniably disturbing for all ages.

It's one of the best shows ever broadcast on the network, despite - or perhaps because - it's also a fantastically disturbing one. Go to Full Review

Anyone disconcerted by the poo gags should think of Ren and Stimpy as an animated Waiting For Godot. Go to Full Review

Anyone who doesn't get a tear in their eye when Stimpy licks his own hide clean in a scheme to earn money for his best pal Ren's pectoral implants is someone with whom I don't ever want to share a good cry. Go to Full Review

I mean, how can you get teary-eyed over a goofy cat that farts and believes its gas-bubble to be its child? Go to Full Review

It's hard to imagine a show like South Park coming along without a subversive cartoon such as Ren & Stimpy paving the way. Go to Full Review

Stephen C @bob25009 Feb 8 6 funny Nickelodeon episodes. See more I. S. W @RT97020096 02/21/2025 The first two seasons, in ONE box, are worth having. The plots are hilarious, visuals simple but memorable and the sound quality stellar. I have no interest in acquiring the subsequent seasons, which drop off badly in quality. See more Matthew F @RT43323706 10/27/2023 Ren and Stimpy saved the animation Industry. Before this, all cartoons were campy poorly animated shows that were meant to sell toys and were never good, except for a couple of exceptions. It came to the point where cartoons weren't fun anymore. Even the Simpsons felt boring and poorly animated. But when Ren and Stimpy cam onto the scene, Animation was saved. The animation was zany and not stilted. John K's perfectionism may be atrocious, but that perfectionism led to great animation. Another problem was that John K never met his deadlines. But you know what, an episode like Stimpy's Invention which took a year to make was worth it, as everything was perfect about it. I know John K was done some truly disgusting things, but let's seperate the art from the artist and remember that like how the nes saved the gaming industry, Ren and Stimpy saved the animation industry. See more 06/04/2020 Ren and Stimpy despite airing on Nickelodeon was not for kids because it had lots of sexual innuendo had graphic vilonce like bleeding intestines eyeballs hearts and kidneys all being thrown up into the air ren is a physcopath who beats up and sometimes tries to kill stimpy theres a whole episode about hanging and in one episode ren and stimpy go to hell and characters try to kill themselves and say there going to go end it all it was also one of the most disturbing cartoons ever with very disturbing imagery such as ren losing all his teeth then plucking out his nerve endings Ren and Stimpys heads being impaled on spears and lots of other disturbing imagery and also has some very graphic vilonce like bleeding intestines eyeballs hearts and kidneys all being thrown up into the air its a amazing twisted show for older teens and adults See more 10/05/2019 This show is amazing! Sure, it's gross, but, hey, so is life. Get over it. It's really silly, and full of life. Unlike most people now a days. See more Read all reviews
