The Rising Road (1933-39)

Episode Info

As America's 32nd president, FDR introduces the Great Depression initiatives collectively known as the New Deal, which help to alleviate suffering and restore people's self-confidence. Eleanor, meanwhile, serves as her husband's liberal conscience and becomes a political force in her own right. As the decade's end looms, FDR faces two important issues: whether to run for an unprecedented third term; and how to deal with the rise of Adolf Hitler in Germany.
