The Secret Diary of Desmond Pfeiffer: Season 1 Reviews

Cheap-shot humor is the only kind of humor there is in The Secret Diary of Desmond Pfeiffer.

At first glance, what's most surprising about [The Secret Diary of] Desmond Pfeiffer is how afraid it is of its premise.
July 26, 2019
Desmond Pfeiffer's creators have shown that they aren't interested in self-aggrandizing mythology. Between pratfalls and horrible puns, they rip the skivvies off racial hypocrisy, sexual puritanism, and misplaced historical solemnity.

[The Secret Diary of Desmond Pfeiffer's] chief offense was not dusting off racist jokes, but its bewildering supposition -- that a Civil War story could be divorced from the atrocity of slavery, while treating race like a running gag.
July 26, 2019
The jokes are out place and the set-up is idiotic.

A true fiasco, in every sense of the word.
July 26, 2019
[The Secret Diary of Desmond Pfeiffer] might actually make you laugh enough so you forget to cringe over the central situation.
July 26, 2019
If you've ever wondered what a nightmarishly bad Saturday Night Live sketch would be like as a prime-time series, this is it.
July 26, 2019
Crude and crass, the jokes are driven home with sledgehammer tactics.
July 26, 2019
This broad comedy has been accused of a variety of things -- being silly and racist. The sex jokes quickly get as tiresome as the Starr Report and the pilot isn't pfffunny enough to be more than a Saturday Night Live sketch.
July 26, 2019
As entertainment, it is about as funny as Pfeiffer constantly telling people, It's P-Feiffer. I say it's pathetic.
July 26, 2019
If you have the patience for crass, innuendo-laced, no-taste bawdy comedy, you will certainly find yourself laughing out loud over this series.
July 26, 2019
Coarsely energetic, there is something almost Rabelaisian about the vulgarity of Desmond Pfeiffer. It is doing for TV what Howard Stern could only boast he would do.

July 26, 2019
The Secret Diary of Desmond Pfeiffer was not a good show. It was a bawdy, lewd, dumb sitcom that relied on shock value, not just in the overall premise, but in constantly making stupid sexual innuendos.
July 26, 2019
Exec producers/writers Mort Nathan and Barry Fanaro misfire on all cylinders.
July 26, 2019
There is enough here to insult everyone, and not enough humor to sustain a weekly sitcom. This diary should have remained secret. Look away, look away.
July 26, 2019
On its face, the premiere of [The Secret Diary of] Desmond Pfeiffer was not so much racist as it was stupid.
July 26, 2019
Mel Brooks in his prime might have turned this concept into deliciously low comedy, but the laughs here are greatly outnumbered by groans.
July 26, 2019
The surprise here is that through the muck you can tell that Chi McBride, as Desmond, has a load of talent. Unfortunately for him, he's in a load of rubbish.
July 26, 2019
Desmond Pfeiffer is likely to drive away blacks, whites, presidents, historians and especially people with a sense of humor.
