It wasn't a knock-the-wind-out-of-you finale, but "The Shield" knows itself - its strengths, its limits - and...it has a way with unresolved resolutions.

The mind games that now dominate The Shield are every bit as exciting as the suspect-slamming interrogations that initially made Mackey famous as an Andy Sipowicz 2.0 - a scowling cynic with more muscles and fewer morals.

I don't want to give away what happens, but the last moments of the season will leave your jaw hanging wide open. How Vic slithers out of his latest crisis - and who ends up as his ally - well, you may not believe it.

"Spanish Practices" isn't very intense, and its drama isn't very immediate, especially for a season finale.
