Baby Maggie's first word, out of earshot of entire family, is to call Homer "Daddy." Even in madcap Simpsons environment, it's quite a heart-melter.

People have been investing strong emotions in cartoon characters at least as far back as Mickey Mouse; the sustained cleverness and, yes, humanity of The Simpsons proves that our devotion is not misplaced.

Krusty Gets Kancelled peaks early but is still a worthy finale to a spectacular season. After all it accomplished in its fourth season, The Simpsons deserved a victory lap or two.
