This season highlights how the show began to feel older to the general audience, with fewer episodes capturing the spark that once defined Springfield. The familiarity starts to overwhelm the storytelling, making it harder for individual episodes to stand out or feel essential. Because of that, the idea of shifting formats feels necessary. The Simpsons may work better as event-style storytelling rather than ongoing television. Season 36 ultimately suggests that Simpson movies or Disney+ specials could preserve the characters and energy, allowing the franchise to thrive without becoming creatively lost. I do miss the couch gags though, but I like how different episodes focus on different characters. As someone who's favorite show IS the Simpsons, it's nice to have new episodes every few weeks. I miss the days when "The Simpsons" was actually about The Simpson family themselves. It felt like Season 36 was all about finding ways to consistently split up the family, just to give the side characters more screen time (more so then most of the family seemingly). Then *Spoiler Alert* killing off Marge the way they did felt more like it was a cheap way of making headlines and boosting ratings, rather than actually trying to make it feel like a meaningful moment within the show's history.. There were some nice moments within the season, but I came away feeling highly unsatisfied by the end of it all. I'm sure a lot of fans will still be happy, and all power to them. However, if this is the new direction that future seasons are going to take, then this show just isn't for me anymore sadly. It's beginning to feel like The Simpsons is now trying to rip off shows like Family Guy, which there were A LOT of references of in this season, which none of them really made much of any sense nor fit the narratives of the stories being told.
