The Sinner is a throwback to classic mystery television, but with the kind of craft now common in this age of peak TV. It drips with atmosphere, strong performances, and a plot that confuses us in a good way.

The show contains echoes of True Detective, Sharp Objects, and Twin Peaks, which all meld together to form something true to life.

Focusing on a different crime, The Sinner ventures out of the source book and into original storytelling territory. Oh, and Carrie Coon stars.

The USA thrill ride is just as addictive as it was last year.

"The Sinner is the Los Angeles Lakers and Carrie Coon is LeBron James."

Drama fans, especially those who love a good murder mystery, would be well advised to give The Sinner Season 2 a chance.
August 6, 2018
The Sinner is a hell of a lot of fun, and it anchors its sensationalist material with grounded performances and dispassionate camerawork.

Season 2 continues to pull viewers in with a carefully curated balance of talent and story.

Season 2 has enough going on it could spin off the rails, but the mere fact it has so much working for it thus far is a big win for everyone involved. The Sinner is no one-hit wonder.

Though it never strays too far from being a gritty police procedural, the manner in which The Sinner lays out its storytelling cards and obfuscates others makes it an engaging watch.

There is one thing this season has going for it and that's the cast. Carrie Coon? You can't go wrong with her.

"The Sinner" maintains its huh! factor with a whole new batch of startling revelations. Once again, it's not so much a whodunnit as a whattheheck.
August 6, 2018
The bottom line for fans of immersive, well-paced crime stories regarding The Sinner should not be a question of "why?" but rather, "when do I tune in?"

It's weirder than its predecessor... It may run out of steam, too, but it feels like a story better-designed to play out over a full season; there are so many more moments that will inspire profanity-laced questions about what could be happening here.

Skeletons from Harry's past further rattle his composure in an atmospheric tale that might be just the thing for those who find HBO's similarly unnerving Sharp Objects too pokey.
July 31, 2018
Everyone in Simonds' series is suffering, in one form or another, from post-traumatic stress, and that balance of external and internal pain is central to its energy.
July 30, 2018
Some of the storytelling feels less refined than last year... but the cast is again strong enough that The Sinner could again be an addictive summer distraction right when we need it.
August 17, 2018
Like the first season, Sinner has been able to successfully keep viewers glued to the mystery by slowly peeling back the layers to reveal not answers, but more questions.
August 6, 2018
In essence, making the motive the mystery, as opposed to the identity of the killer, represents the smallest of twists, but works plenty well if it's executed properly.

Season Two has only just begun its twists and turns. But so far, so good, with ample possibilities still in play while Harry's head tries to stay in the game.
