Based on the novel by Christos Tsiolkas, this drama explores how a single event can cause significant repercussions for a group of family and friends. The event? A slap. Specifically, a man, Harry, slapping a 4-year-old boy, who is not his son, at the 40th birthday party of Harry's cousin, Hector. The incident infuriates the boys' parents, resulting in a trial where the story is told from the points of view of eight people. "The Slap," as the event comes to be known, greatly affects each character's life and, in turn, results in each character being "slapped" and forced to face truths about themselves.

This series has been compelling but often uncomfortable viewing, testament to the tremendous performances delivered across the board. Go to Full Review

Honestly, the best thing about The Slap is that it's ending, and I don't even (entirely) mean that as a backhanded compliment. Go to Full Review

The Slap is impressive on the performance side and provocative in story. Go to Full Review
Philippa Hawker Australian Book Review 10/14/2017
In the end, like the book, the television manifestation of The Slap is a harsh, not necessarily judgemental, portrait of the generation turning forty, as well as a gentler evocation of those on either side of the divide. Go to Full Review

The producers have hyped up the show to soap opera levels and reverted many of the diverse characters into stereotypes to make them easier to digest. Go to Full Review

So many things in the American version are "prettied up" for the American audience and it loses it's bite. Why do we insist on remaking excellent productions into mediocre ones? Pass.
