What to Know

Critics Consensus

Though its non-linear plotting distracts, The Trial of Christine Keeler remains an engaging -- if somewhat redundant -- lesson in history carried by the strength of its performers.

The Trial Of Christine Keeler not only failed to live up to the billing that, admittedly, may only have been in my head -- it will be the new A Very English Scandal, I'd decided -- but was also frequently incoherent due to all the jumping about in time. Go to Full Review
Victoria Segal The Times (UK) 01/06/2020
All the main players were beautifully captured: Ben Miles as the compromised minister, Emilia Fox as his frosty film-star wife, James Norton as the queasy manipulator Stephen Ward, calling Keeler "little baby". Go to Full Review

The Trial of Christine Keeler is a good series that has a lot to offer. However, if you're unfamiliar with the story, it might be a little hard to follow, let alone believe. Go to Full Review
Peter Crawley Irish Times 01/06/2020
This kind of dreadful overwriting does not spell huge confidence in the story (given artificial propulsion by tiresomely frequent "one year earlier..." time hops), or its audience (spoon fed the importance of every moment), or, ultimately, its heroine. Go to Full Review

The success of this six-part series stands or falls on casting a lead actor with enough presence to forcefully convey what all the fuss is about. And Kingsman's Sophie Cookson is simply sensational. Go to Full Review

A scandal of the century. The series shines a new light on the ruthless power and corruption in British politics in the 60s. I didn't realise how corrupt the UK government was during this scandal, and as for Stephen Ward, you could say this story is more about him. Loved it. The characterisation was naive, seemingly based on current morality and values rather than those of the period, resulting in a binary combination of good bohemians surrounded by the bad establishment (all of whom were, of course, white middle-aged men).
