What to Know

Critics Consensus

The Trouble With Maggie Cole is that it's logical leaps and tonal incongruities make for a dizzying viewing experience - albeit one with fun performances that's maybe a little confusing, but never dull.

Dawn French is in her element as Maggie, a busybody, compulsive meddler and event organiser whose ego and loose tongue land her in trouble. Go to Full Review

What makes it strange is the tone -- it's a comedy about embarrassment that stops shy of being genuinely excoriating about standard stories of cozy English villages. Go to Full Review

A thriller of sorts -- there are plenty of dark forces here -- with a strong sitcom sensibility, The Trouble With Maggie Cole is a rollicking drama that shines with life. Go to Full Review

Dawn French is the strength and weakness of the series. She's charming, ditzy and irritating in equal measure. Go to Full Review

Pauline W @Paulwall 07/07/2024 Tuned in for a bit of traditional English fare with beautiful villages and solid characters but unfortunately it was drivel. Really poor, predictable writing and plot twists. Dawn French was impossibly irritating (loved her as the vicar, disliked her here). Only saving grace was the Welsh daughter in law. It doesn't show enough of the beautiful Devon villages to even be worth watching for that. Avoid. Mildly interesting characters and some pretty village scenery make it watchable, but I wouldn't go out of my way. The character's are great, especially Dawn French and the storyline is so brilliantly written and believable. I have known many people like Maggie cole..... Give it a try, you will not be disappointed! See more Read all reviews
