A perfect illustration of reboot over mere remake, the updated episode...Nightmare at 30,000 Feet, recasts the story from a monster-on-the-wing horror piece to a more disturbing play on human trust and the ways in which the present shapes the future.

This isn't really a reboot; it doesn't even qualify as fan fiction. With the exception of one superior episode, "Replay," it's hard to conceive that an artist as prodigiously talented and thoughtful as Peele is creatively involved at all.

As engaging as the series is, it also serves as an unsettling reflection of our troubled times-one that can no longer be ignored.

It's just a matter of waiting for the show to catch up. But I've waited in worse places.

Overall, though, this Trip Advisor doesn't hesitate to recommend another journey to... THE TWILIGHT ZONE.

This show's best charms are not the ones displayed in plain sight, which means it's not going to be for everyone.

The 10-episode "Zone" can't help but fall short in comparison to the 1960s anthology.

Does not have nearly enough Jordan Peele in it.

It's hard not to let the sobering shadow of "The Comedian" chill the reaction to the much, much better "Nightmare."

The Twilight Zone desperately needs Peele to take the reins, but at this point it's probably too late.

Not one of the four previewed episodes fully hits the mark established by the classic Serling series. They're too long, too slow to develop, and -- for the most part -- much too predictable.

This new series shows signs of developing that distinctive voice, and certainly Peele is capable of it.

It's a reminder that of all the things "The Twilight Zone" used to be and still is, it was hardly ever about the art of subtlety.

The series generally does an admirable job of paying homage to its origins without being bound by them

This Twilight doesn't feel like a relic, but it also doesn't feel vital, or at least consistently excellent, enough to justify dusting off the title yet again.

Disturbing and insightful, The Twilight Zone strips us of most of our bearings even as it offers a grounded center.

So far, the new Twilight Zone is a little uneven, but so was the old one. It doesn't lack experimental energy or visual imagination; it just seems to be still developing its story voice.

Perhaps, like "Black Mirror" on Netflix, true fans will find the best episode of "The Twilight Zone" and obsess about that until the next obsession takes over. For the time being, though, the message we're taking away is that there's only one Rod Serling.

The first four episodes are all bad, a mess of sleepy conceits grasping toward topicality with on-the-nose dialogue spoken by boring characters. A couple sharp performances can't triumph against nonstop plot contrivance.

Fine reboot that gets better in two later episodes.
