One woman has a secret, while the other is on a mission to reveal it before thousands of lives are lost. What to Know

Critics Consensus

Elisabeth Moss' dramatic power remains undiminished with another arresting performance, but The Veil's clunky storytelling doesn't live up to its star's chops.

The Veil is rote in terms of a spy thriller, we’ve seen most of these beats before, but what keeps it distinct is the onscreen chemistry between Elisabeth Moss and Yumna Marwan Go to Full Review

It’s somewhat clunky, but more worryingly quite self-impressed. Go to Full Review

The Veil has a star and enough of a hook to grab you -- and, at six episodes, seems algorithmically calculated to be short enough that you probably won’t give up if you start... You’d almost feel guilty turning it off. Go to Full Review

The shifting layers of psychological mystery and the pervading sense of Western values under attack make this perfect fare for anyone who loved the first few seasons of Homeland. Go to Full Review
James Walton The Spectator Jul 24, 2025
The dialogue is often corny, the kickass heroine levels feel almost parodic and nothing is remotely plausible. Nonetheless -- and this is the properly annoying bit -- there’s still enough intrigue and mad fun to keep us watching. Go to Full Review

Suspenseful terrorist miniseries that serves primarily as an acting showcase for adversarial actresses Elisabeth Moss and Yumma Marwan. Go to Full Review

prawnda S @RT72497680 Oct 24, 2026 please stop hiring elizabeth moss. even if she weren't benefiting from nepotism through an abjectly predatory life ruining blackmail cult such as scientology, she is completely untalented. while i don't generally judge people based on their appearances, she is just downright awful to look at for someone who keeps getting so many tv and movie roles, and it's just so obvious that there is no meritocracy happening here. besides this, she is consistently typecast in the the most obnoxious, toxic person she could possibly be, and i don't need to watch more than the trailer for this show to know it's going to lean into more than the same. See more Gabrielle G @RT53076956 Aug 3, 2026 It is an absurd attempt to portray international spy drama.. the continuity and rational are ridiculous. Key characters running around with no disguises and easy escapes. finale episode is laughable what big castle no maids or footman to begin with and then add incest just laughable See more Paola B @RT53332168 May 5, 2026 I am genuinely surprised how boring this show was. The only reason I kept on watching it is because of Elizabeth- she’s an incredible actress, she carried the entire show. The plot and action though - wow, impressively boring See more Rosie O @RT12812875 Aug 26, 2025 Great series. Humour and big characters. Can’t wait for more! See more L. F @RT68678650 Aug 25, 2025 Elisabeth Moss gave a great performance but it wasn't enough to save the show. It actually seemed really promising to begin with, but turned into what can only be describled as muddled, unbelievable, poorly executed, espionage nonsense. The storyline was overly convoluted for no reason, which then required countless convenient coincidences & left-field "ah-ha" moments in order to keep things moving. It asked for way too much suspension of disbelief from the audience. The slapstick violence & unnecessary creepy "sexy" scenes slowing things down during what were apparently time critical moments, were the final nails in the coffin. What a mess! See more Neil C @RT73281396 Aug 16, 2025 Lazy, disjointed storytelling that's riddled with cliches. Elizabeth Moss talks to herself all the time, like a fan-fiction heroine whose author doesn't have the skill to explain her motivations any other way. The secret service agents make James Bond look realistic and action scenes have a jarring lack of research - apparently French roadside bollards so easily detach that you can use them as a weapon to assault motorcycle riders and coastguard helicopters lead SEAL team raids. There's a weird daddy-issues theme running through it, which either needs to be made central to the plot or dropped entirely. As it is, it feels like the writer thinks daddy-issues plus kicking ass now and again automatically make Elizabeth Moss' character interesting and deep. They do not. The Veil is what you'd get if you asked chatGPT for a movie script about a female spy. The first few episodes aren't terrible but it gets worse and the conclusion is truly awful. Don't bother.
