Critic Reviews for The Voice Season 1
All Critics (10) | Top Critics (6) | Fresh (9) | Rotten (1)
The Voice offers real working musicians as judges, presenting valuable advice to teams of singers. They talk about things like breath control, restraint, blending harmonies and other technical issues that rarely come up on Idol.
A horrifically entertaining vocal competition.
While you're left to wonder why these four stars need a reality show, or why the contestants never made it in the first place, "The Voice" should remain a solid performer for NBC -- which so badly needs it.
A creatively muted, off-key affair - a program that seemed to borrow its set from "The Weakest Link," and had no shortage of weak links in its conception.
A garish bore.
The most effective new show that Mark Burnett has produced in years.
The Voice ends its first season tonight, having successfully done what no other network show has been able to do: reinvent the singing competition to stand apart from-and improve upon-American Idol.
Overall, The Voice has a formula that successfully creates an entertaining viewing experience that feels genuine.
Mark Burnett's pre-emptive strike against Cowell's upcoming "X Factor" for Fox, came in last night as gentle as a lullaby.
The Voice has its cheese factor, but the line between celebrated musician and aspiring artist was blurry, making the show feel a little more authentic for an NBC primetime slot.
