Kang is loading the show with quality character, relationships, and mystery (including that helicopter everyone wants to know about) right off the bat.

This pilot is an optimistic indicator that 'The Walking Dead' can flourish within the shaky lands of the apocalypse. [Full Review in Spanish]

As this season started, The Walking Dead looked scarily like a dead man walking.

Showrunner Angela Kang had already done the impossible in resuscitating this season to heights of TWD's glory days while navigating the loss of the series' main character.

It isn't a perfect first half, but it takes the unexpected departure of its star and runs, doesn't walk, towards revitilization.

The Walking Dead has turned loss on many levels into a reset and become more insightful than it has been in a long time. That might not be what you expect for Survivors of the end times, but it is something well worth watching.

Rick's final episode was full of great acting by Andrew Lincoln, Danai Gurira, Lauren Cohan, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. I will never look at Negan the same again. The writers are so much better this season.

[It] feels like the series is back on track, and it's true that change in any creative endeavor can help energize a long-running franchise, at least temporarily.

For the first time, the show seems interested in thinking about what its whole picture will be once it ends. That commitment to thinking about both its future and its past has made The Walking Dead's present the best that it's been in ages.

What's looming... ominously is the tension between the various surviving communities.

It's a nice change of pace, showing characters that actually communicate with one another - and especially after seasons that so often had people make hasty and dumb decisions without even talking to their friends and allies.

In season nine, The Walking Dead concerns itself with the nitty-gritty of ensuring an egalitarian system of government.
