The Wheel of Time: Season 1 (2021)

Season 1
The Wheel of Time

Critics Consensus

The Wheel of Time's revolutions can be a bit creaky as it tries to stand out from other fantasy series, but it succeeds admirably in making Robert Jordan's epic approachable for the uninitiated.

Very hard to follow as a newcomer to the story. Also, the young kids are annoyingly stupid. Hey, our town was destroyed and friends killed, but let's not trust the woman who saved us! Finally, and this is the killer, it is BORING. I made it through the first 4 episodes with the help of the fast forward button, but I am done. I really have no interest in continuing to watch, which says all you need to know. Don't waste your time on this. I am now waiting patiently for the Witcher to come out next week. Now THAT is the way to do an interesting and compelling fantasy series.

A bit awkward to get into, especially when comparing and contrasting to the well polished 8 seasons of Game of Thrones, but after getting over some of the artistic liberties from the director the show really starts to shine by episodes 4 and 5. Superb acting will help create the foundation for this series that book lovers have been fantasizing over for years.

Not the most utterly fantastic show of all time. Nonetheless, a decent story, and some interesting CGI. Diverse cast, in a way that is not pandering, obtrusive, or unskilled in acting.

Any good review must be fake. This is a cheesy CW adaption of one of the greasiest fantasy epics ever told.

This is a fantastic TV show, a great book adaptation and the acting is A+++. Book purists who give negative reviews do not understand that a story cannot be conveyed in the same manner across different mediums. A must watch for fantasy fans and for the wheel of time fans.

Finally, the wheel is turning. The main drawback is the scenario that introduces unnecessary confusion through some changes to the original story.

Rafe Judkins used this classic beloved fiction as a vehicle for his progressive politics and anyone who watches this and read the books will not recognize the world which he has perverted, the characters he has not developed, and the Mary Sues he has created. Utter crap.

I have Read the first six novels in the wheel of time currently on crown of swords book seven and i Don't understand those arguing that the show is not following the books. From my viewing on( episode 5 as of this writing)the show the plot is the same just condensed so you are not spending half the season just traveling between inns. For the characters i think the main cast has done a terrific job realizing the book characters, the one playing Nynaeve springs to mind in particular. Amazon done great job with spending on the budget for just the first season although there gonna have to bump up the budget for future season cause things get crazy haha. Anyway I love it and you should give it a chance, ignore the haters and form your own opinion.

Crap adaptation. Really poor choices made especially the choice of Perrin killing his wife that he didn't have in the book. And to double down on this terrible idea, they made his wife preggers! WoW, so edgy. Good work guys...

An adaption done very well. The pacing and world building is good. The scenes they come up with to show the way parts of the world works and customs, and the give added information is great. A book can give pages of narration to explain stuff, while a show has to show it or have someone talking for a very long time. Glad they chose the show and not tell method. The characters are all portrayed well, I'm loving everyone's performances. Once again the pacing is better than most fantasy series. GoT and LotR both had a slow start. Also it's based on a completed book series so that makes me optimistic for the ending rather than a certain show based on an incomplete story.
