The back-and-forth makes for pretty good television, ratcheting up the tension and giving a sense of the approach both sides will take in the trial.

While the promise of bringing something completely new to the legal procedural may have been a little off, it certainly provides a refreshing change of pace.

It may not close the case for season pass inclusion after its opening arguments but "The Whole Truth" does enough right to keep listening to the case

Bruckheimer invariably seems to prefer going at least a little over the top rather than depend on audiences to grasp anything resembling subtlety.

This clever, well-written series follows each case by alternating points of view on the same story to reflect the different approaches and tactics employed by the defense and the prosecution.

The Whole Truth is about letting the audience see that it is not so much about justice as it is about how the jury sees things.

It's all very fast-paced but relentlessly and annoyingly simplistic, with virtually no dramatic nourishment along the way.

The ABC newcomer is an enjoyable courtroom drama.

"The Whole Truth" equals "Law & Order: The Next Generation." It's still just a little too overeager and needs to mature.

There's some minor Rashomon-style point-of-view switching as the attorneys prepare their opposing cases each week, and never know who's going to win, which makes this a bit different, and a bit more intriguing, than many standard lawyer shows.

The pleasure to be found on the show is in watching Tierney and Morrow riff off each other like very competitive tennis players, hitting the ball back and forth with all their anger behind each whack - then shaking hands warmly at the end of the match.

I'm not yet crazy about the formula, but it's good to see Tierney back in a series and though "Truth" has a different look and feel than some of Bruckheimer's other series, the polish remains.

The Whole Truth gets a split verdict. Solid idea, inconsistent execution.

The novel twist is that sometimes one will win and sometimes the other.
September 22, 2010
This is a criminal law show that doesn't have much of an attention span, and one that suspects that you don't, either.

Recycling ideas is not for the meek. Translation: It's a legal series you've seen before.
September 22, 2010
The personality cost is too high for the payoff.
September 22, 2010
Despite being a drama about lawyers, 'The Whole Truth' doesn't even begin to have the courage of its convictions.
September 22, 2010
It denies viewers the opportunity to become invested in this adversarial procedure, to pick a side and a root for an outcome.

Mostly, the show seems determined to race through cases at a breakneck clip. Speed doesn't kill, necessarily, but it can't save weak material either.
