OK, so the show's not saying anything new. But it is saying it with a new joy: this is caricature to the max.

The Windsors was low-budget, crude and rude. But it was all done with such cacophonous relish that resistance was useless.

It definitely fits the brief of lightly pummelling the monarchy and has a genuine claim to the "so bad it's good" tag. C4's [Channel 4] effort? So bad it's bad, I'm afraid.

But, sadly, all the talent on show are let down by a woefully predictable and utterly laugh-free script. Off with their heads!

Apr 22, 2019 | Full Review…

Wrestling with a relentlessly unsophisticated script, the spirited cast try so desperately hard to be shockingly hilarious it's exhausting to watch. In fairness, it has its moments but they're few and far between.

Given the helpful stream of supportive PR from the Royal Family, this fine piece of satire is rather timely.

All very funny, but you know, it's the kind of chat that in previous centuries would have seen people dragged off the scaffold. So good for Channel 4, I say.

Yep, subtle certainly isn't the watchword here and I'm guessing royalists won't be tuning in. But I actually enjoyed this silly, but colourful parade of caricatures.

Apr 22, 2019 | Full Review…

All in all, it's daft but harmless fun.

...utterly silly, but very funny.

Audience Reviews for The Windsors: Season 1

This was the ultimate plug for the Royal Family. Great information, but terribly rotten in its scope and subjective commentary on those outside of the family line.
  • Apr 15, 2020
As silly as some of the humor is, the absolute commitment by the cast elevate the absurdity. I'm usually laughing all the way through the episodes.
  • Dec 15, 2019
The characters should Aline closer to the real counterparts but still be funny. The fact they are so different makes it hard to associate it with the real royal family.
  • Nov 28, 2019
Unfunny and often tasteless, the kind of comedy suitable for borderline intellectual functioning, no wit whatsoever.
