The Winning Try has enough positives going for it that you might be rooting for these outcasts by the end, whether you care about high school politics and sports or not. Go to Full Review

From the outset, there is little mystery as to what trajectory the show will take, but when it comes to stories with rigid formulas such as these, what matters most is charisma and chemistry. Go to Full Review

The Winning Try is as much about personal redemption and resilience as it is about rugby. It thrives on the energy of its K-drama roots while honoring the physical and emotional weight of the sport. Go to Full Review

Danielle S @RT80185126 Aug 31 I usually don't watch K-dramas that aren't on the more violent/crime side, so this was my first experience with a "feel good" type drama. I am a supporter of Korean rugby and watched this for that reason. First off, this is a sometimes melodramatic but overall accurate portrayal of how difficult it is to forge a career in rugby in Korea. I didn't feel that any of the characters were "overly subservient" in any way. If you aren't familiar with Korean culture and Confucian-based societies, it may seem different, but watching as a Korean-American, all of the behavior was standard respect for seniors in Korean society (and was also commentary on its pros and cons). That being said, the drama is formulaic and has an uplifting underdog story. Everything turns out the way the viewer (probably) wants it to, but I had zero issues with that. Sometimes you need a show that's fun and heartwarming. The characters are well-developed and I enjoyed each individual storyline. There's plenty of humor without feeling corny. If you're a fan of Western sports movies like "Miracle," "Rudy," and "The Sandlot," I think you'll really enjoy this. See more Chris S @RT87455459 Aug 29 Very frustrating drama. Maybe it's my Western thinking but all main characters are extremely annoying. No compassion for others, annoyingly subservient characters not standing up for themselves or others. I'm writing this review halfway in episode 9 and can't watch it anymore. Up to this point I was hoping someone would stand up for themselves but nope.... Instead of kicking someone's ass they bow, make excuses, go down on their knees... OMG !!! I am having a hard time believing that even South-Korea's society is thís warped. Update: forced myself to keep watching since I was in this far... but unfortunately it didn't turn for the better. Being sick being a reason to fire someone???? OMG... here it's illegal to fire someone for being sick! Have to do some research if this is normal in Korea.... This is about the greatest sport in the world, rugby union and really works, containing comedy as well as drama. Also as we all know too well it shows most PE teachers as demented thugs. A great series. See more Holden D. @Iloveme Aug 10 I Really enjoyed this See more Read all reviews
