What to Know

Critics Consensus

While Geralt of Rivia gets a new face, The Witcher overall is beginning to grow stale in a fourth season that dutifully sets up the series' endgame without having enough fun along the way.

[Chris Hemsworth's] quietly ridiculous turn is nonetheless perfectly attuned to a show that harks back to the days before fantasy was cool and gets by (just about) on sheer silliness. Go to Full Review

Perhaps it’s fitting that we only have to toss a coin to our witcher once more after this. Go to Full Review

No amount of imaginative swordplay or inventive creature design can prevent the sense that The Witcher is now what all sword and sorcery epics fear becoming: pure bilge. Go to Full Review

There is action, sex, violence, bloodshed, twists, turns, and lots of monsters, but none of it feels repetitive or rote. The Witcher continues to live up to expectations and, for the first time, has exceeded mine. Go to Full Review

It took me a while to remember where all the characters were in the story, and in fact who a lot of them were. … The unfortunate thing is that [Hemsworth] is just not as monumental as Cavill. It’s a slightly gentler version than the mean, hulking Cavill. Go to Full Review

Z M @ZabenM 2d Disappointing from season 1, and calling Lauren a creator is an insult to creators. She’s just an idiot who couldn’t stick to the perfect established source material. If Lauren wanted to "tell her own story" she should have told her own story. Don't butcher someone else's work and try and pass it off as your own. This is the perfect example of arrogance, ignorance, and stupidity. Netflix, you deserved this for hiring Lauren from the start. See more A C @Fish3170 3d Forget the argument about the source material, even as a stand alone this would qualify as some of the worst written material they could have come up with. Oh, here is a big announcement given in an awkward way, oh I'm leaving the group, JK I'm back, yeah that big announcement thing was a thing but here is a cheap way of writing that out of the script. This is just one example of the long list of terrible plots. It is also clear that Clavil had a hand in making sure the series maintained a direction. Even some of the moves in the fight scenes were sloppy. When a very oversized flail just stops in mid air and changes direction instead of continuing around in an arc, it's one of those small things that an enthusiast would have identified. It is disheartening to hear they have already taped the 5th season. It means there is less of a chance they will fix this trainwreck to give this series the finale it deserves. See more Cristopher L. Feb 10 You enter season 4 with uncertainty and hatred towards the show given the fact that Henry Cavill is no longer Geralt… you watch the first episode and automatically jump to conclusions and stand by your hatred. As the season goes along you actually start to appreciate Liam Hemsworth as a more vulnerable and loving Geralt. Season 4 is actually really good, you just have to get through it. Looking forward to season 5 and to everyone who hasn’t watched it simply because they’re mad about the recast and the writers swaying away from the book material, I actually highly recommend you give it a chance. See more Cássio R @Cassius Feb 8 What a shame, this series sucks See more Filipe M @Philippus Feb 6 A far cry from the source material. They ruined a series that should have simply ridden the wave of the enormous success of the books and games with the fan base. See more Mansour S @Mansourrrrrrrrr Jan 28 well to be honest Liam Hemsworth isn't that bad as a Witcher but Henry Cavill was born for this rule, he looks like geralt from games also, actors aside the story is good, the battles are nice nothing feels repeated, the way yenefer's and Cirilla's personalities grows is really good, what i didn't like is how is Geralt being presented as a soft and weak guy See more Read all reviews
