What to Know

Critics Consensus

While Geralt of Rivia gets a new face, The Witcher overall is beginning to grow stale in a fourth season that dutifully sets up the series' endgame without having enough fun along the way.

[Chris Hemsworth's] quietly ridiculous turn is nonetheless perfectly attuned to a show that harks back to the days before fantasy was cool and gets by (just about) on sheer silliness. Go to Full Review

Perhaps it’s fitting that we only have to toss a coin to our witcher once more after this. Go to Full Review

No amount of imaginative swordplay or inventive creature design can prevent the sense that The Witcher is now what all sword and sorcery epics fear becoming: pure bilge. Go to Full Review

There is action, sex, violence, bloodshed, twists, turns, and lots of monsters, but none of it feels repetitive or rote. The Witcher continues to live up to expectations and, for the first time, has exceeded mine. Go to Full Review

It took me a while to remember where all the characters were in the story, and in fact who a lot of them were. … The unfortunate thing is that [Hemsworth] is just not as monumental as Cavill. It’s a slightly gentler version than the mean, hulking Cavill. Go to Full Review

Ben N @Bneffer 1d It took me a couple episodes, but by the end of the 4th Season I am stoked for the final season and to see a conclusion to this version of The Witcher's tale. The surrounding characters are great and I love the environment as much as the tale. See more Ondrej Z @BIack 6d I think Liam Hemsworth didn't do a bad job; it's just that the material he was given isn't good at all, and I'm kinda sorry for him as he's getting needlessly big flak for something that's not his fault at all. It's sad what this series devolved into. See more Nikolai V @RT91058839 Apr 4 I won’t be watching Season 5 without Henry Cavill. Liam Hemsworth just doesn’t fit Geralt for me - the role needs a more grounded, intimidating, and battle-worn presence, and this casting choice breaks the immersion. On top of that, I think Lauren Hissrich’s creative decisions have consistently moved the show farther away from what made The Witcher compelling in the first place. See more chad E. @chadfromsc Apr 3 Changing of a lead actor will always be a target for grief but it didn’t bother me at all. He was fine. The season was just flat. A very disappointing ending to what started out so promising. See more Harry L @RT97322660 Mar 31 The writers and producers clearly hated that the main character was male. If the Witcher really had been a character focused deep level story following Geralt (perfectly acted by Cavill) with his travelling companion Dandelion we could have had a gritty, funny, exciting and meaningful show. Instead we got this. The irony is that the most important People in Geralt's life are with the exception of dandelion BOTH excellent female characters. See more Read all reviews
