The Women's Murder Club: Season 1 (2007 - 2008)

Season 1
The Women's Murder Club

Critics Consensus

The women of Women's Murder Club make the series worth a look thanks to their engrossing chemistry and frequent hangout sessions -- overshadowing the slight and often trite crime yarns that bring them together.

Critic Reviews for The Women's Murder Club Season 1

All Critics (20) | Top Critics (15)

Everything other than [Angie] Harmon, who has thrown her "Law & Order" reserve out the window, feels unnatural and contrived.

[A] latter day Charlie's Angels without Charlie or "jiggle." Or much entertainment value.

An appealing cast and a flashy production style bolster familiar material.

Sep 19, 2019 | Full Review…

From what I can recall, the new version isn't much better or worse than the original, but in any incarnation, the show is so disposable that I would sometimes forget it existed even as I was watching it.

Dec 28, 2018 | Full Review…

While the crime itself is only moderately intriguing, its real function is to let viewers see what each of these women does, how they work together and how they talk to each other.

Concept-wise and casting-wise, WMC is spot-on. But boy is the writing ever lousy.

"Women's Murder Club" has the tone of a show that's designed rather than crafted, a show more concerned about appealing to a target demographic instead of just flowing.

The show is based on the books by best-selling crime writer James Patterson, which explains its strange hybrid nature as a gritty crime show with more than a touch of the chick flick. This leads to some strange scenes.

Sep 19, 2019 | Full Review…

The tone is not exactly breezy... but it doesn't revel in the gory details either.

Sep 19, 2019 | Full Review…

[T]he show doesn't really stretch beyond the formula that shows like CSI and Law & Order have perfected.

Sep 19, 2019 | Rating: 3/5 | Full Review…

"Women's Murder Club" may strike a person as a show that should be working better than it does.

Dec 28, 2018 | Full Review…

I can't say how the depictions of the characters here compare to their likenesses in the books, but taken on its own merits, "Women's Murder Club" is the most pleasant surprise of the fall TV season -- a "Club" worth joining.
