Critic Reviews for Time Traveling Bong Season 1

All Critics (12) | Top Critics (7)

Time Traveling Bong is as silly as it sounds and makes little sense as a television event, much less one intended to celebrate the subversive joys of weed.

It's a feminist statement with a sneaky smart edge to it.

Ilana Glazer is in fine, filthy form in this all-too-brief, oh-so-wrong comedy series.

May 16, 2019 | Full Review…

Time Traveling Bong is way smarter than it needs to be. The level of insight around a plot that sounds like something you come up with in a dorm room after way too much Purple Haze indicates how subversively brilliant this show really is.

While the miniseries' ramshackle nature is one of its charms, it's hardly tossed off, instead functioning as an amiably silly, slyly pointed showcase for the ever-game and funny Glazer and Downs.

A painless, quickly forgotten experience during which you may laugh for reasons that won't be entirely clear.

Apr 20, 2016 | Full Review…

Though satirical points are made -- about gender roles and race, about progress, the lack of progress and the wrong kind of progress -- the humor overall is goofy (and gooey), a kind of Mel Brooks romp for the 20-teens, minor but sweet.

Apr 21, 2016 | Full Review…

A premise this diabolically goofy could have warranted a full season, but Time Traveling Bong packs as much giggle-inducing, uncommonly intelligent gags into 90 minutes as it can, to largely entertaining results.

Apr 20, 2016 | Rating: 7/10 | Full Review…

Comedy Central's Time Traveling Bong feels, at times, like the glorious love child of Broad City and The Wizard of Oz. (Just think of Ilana Glazer as Dorothy and Paul W. Downs as Toto. Also, the Tin Man is a bong.)

Apr 22, 2016 | Full Review…

From ancient Greece to the Salem witch trials, the humorous series offers lots of funny moments thanks to some good writing and great comic timing.

Apr 22, 2016 | Rating: 3/5 | Full Review…

Sort of like Drunk History, although much higher and generally funnier.

Apr 20, 2016 | Full Review…

If Time Traveling Bong isn't as laugh-out-loud funny as Broad City, it has its own, more whimsical and laid-back charms. It's a nice way to end a few evenings, by sitting back and watching two likable people light up for adventure.

Audience Reviews for Time Traveling Bong: Season 1

Buckle up and get high! SEASON 01: Watching it just after watching 'Rough Night'. Two stars from that were the leads in this, but not as a couple, except partners in time travelling. The director too comes from the same league, but it was made prior to that film and I watched it only now. I think it was good. Started off amazingly. Just a three episode season, and maybe that's the entire series as well. Because there's no news about renewing it. One of the decent mini-series I've seen. Short and well paced with nice performances and visuals. Two lives-wasted cousins discovers a time travel device which works with smoking weed. They start off their adventure for fun, travelling different timeline on the earth. How their visits were viewed by the people was told with many thrilling quests. From past to the present and future, they encounter many great stuffs, as well as struggles to overcome obstacles. Their return journey is what brings an end to the tale. How they do it and what they learn out of it revealed to us very funnily. I feel they should continue the series with the same number of episodes for each season. I hope at least Netflix to take over. Watching it is like watching some tv shorts like during a special occasion like in December. If you watch it all continuously, then it's like a film. At a time very silly, but enjoyable. The first episode was so good, but the next one fell a little behind. Also the final episode. The device was funny, because if you smoke it, you will get high, then there's no way finding if you really travelled through the time. It's all the same experience. But nicely used for the concept of this series. Just watch it guys! 7/10

    Relevant. Timely. Important.

It's got some laughs, but the last episode was too laugh free, and a little stupid. I could tell that Ilana wasn't the only one writing. I think this didn't really work as a mini-series, and would have worked better as a series, and I'm surprised it wasn't!

    Simplesmente amando esse seriado.

Ilana Glazer and Paul W. Downs team up on a hilarious, adventurous 4/20 special, titled Time Traveling Bong. It may not be as laugh-out-loud funny as their hit show Broad City (my favorite show on TV), but it is hilarious none-the-less. Ilana Glazer is probably the funniest woman on TV right now, and this only supports that observation. Definitely worth watching ESPECIALLY if you're one to celebrate 4/20. Kick back, pack a bong and enjoy
