Season 1
To Have & To Hold

Critics Consensus

Jason Beghe and Moira Kelly create some winning sparks on screen as a couple at odds, but To Have & To Hold's contrived plot and reliance on stereotypes constrains the duo's considerable charm.

Think of the Moonlighting bickering -- without the pizazz.

It's a means-well kind of drama, and the stars, Jason Beghe and Moira Kelly, are certainly attractive, but the contrivance of having them play newlyweds who also oppose each other in court... comes across as an albatross around them.

This show is one sloppy, gooey, annoying mess.

Their chemistry burns white-hot. Yet for all of their sassy electricity, the storyline tends to douse the flame.

Offensive... But what's really sinful is [its] lack of dimension, nuance, and simple creativity.

Jul 12, 2019 | Full Review…

Still a little more affecting than it ought to be, largely because of the charisma of its lead couple, Jason Beghe and Moira Kelly.

One of the most appealing new shows of the season.

A concept such as this demands the volatile chemistry Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd used to have on Moonlighting. Kelly and Beghe, while pleasant, don't come close.

The show, sometimes cute, generally lays it on too thick.

The pilot never finds a consistent tone, but there is some promise here in the main relationship.

Jul 12, 2019 | Rating: 2.5/4 | Full Review…

Pilot is cleverly written in an absurd way. And the co-leads would have had the potential for Moonlighting-like chemistry if they hadn't gotten married by the end of the pilot.

Well, this is really sort of a silly, unrealistic show -- but it's also the sort that just might sweep you off your feet and make you fall in love with it.
