      What to know

      Critics Consensus

Tokyo Vice's protagonist is its least interesting element, but the intrigue of Japan's underworld and the verisimilitude of its setting make for a seductive slice of neon noir. Read critic reviews

Audience Reviews for Tokyo Vice: Season 1

It's well-cast, but that can't save it's boring and miniscule plot. It takes 4 episodes to even reveal what the central mystery of the season is.

      • Jun 16, 2023

While there a couple of flat spots, this series on police, the press and the Yakuza in Japan builds nicely towards it's gripping final couple of episodes. Well written and acted, this series shows plenty of potential going forward.

      • Apr 05, 2023

Amazing show! I hope they keep the quality work in the next seasons.

      • Feb 18, 2023

Although its pacing may be frustrating, the plot it is interesting enough to keep you hooked.

      • Jan 22, 2023

Well written, good cinematography, and good acting. What more could one ask for?

      • Jan 19, 2023

I am a fan of procedurals, and this one is of sorts. It shows the painful path of journalism (although overdramatized of course) and the interwovenness of the social, political, legal and criminal system permeated with a certain code of honor. Especially one villain is too sinister for my taste, but the again, what do I know about Tokyos underworld. Also I was not sure about the overly industrious sunnyboy lead at the beginning, but then again his charisma matched the cultural demands (depicted). Kudos to the leads for learning Japanese.
