A former high-ranking NYPD officer becomes the first female police chief of Los Angeles. A true blue New Yorker, Abigail "Tommy" Thomas uses her unflinching honesty and hardball tactics to keep social, political and national security issues from hindering effective law enforcement in the Southland. With an equal distribution of political, procedural and family drama, "Tommy" comes from Paul Attanasio, the creator of the acclaimed series "Bull," "House" and "Homicide: Life on the Street."

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Though Tommy at times undermines unexpected twists with predictable solutions, it's still a decent new procedural thanks to the endlessly watchable Edie Falco.

It could have been a hot mess of clunky speechifying and patronizing exposition, but while there is a bit of that, strong performances and interesting characterization make the whole thing very watchable. Go to Full Review

Tommy is in some respects as familiar as cop shows of the distant past, but freshens the formula by incorporating timely storylines, and a wry sensibility that plays to Falco's strengths. Go to Full Review

[The ensemble] take the sharp dialogue provided to them and spin it into enjoyable and enthralling performances that hopefully carry "Tommy" past its initial cannon bombardment of crusading. Go to Full Review

kioto w @KiotoWave 01/07/2023 the most ordinary detective story with a very predictable plot for this genre of detective stories. Nothing unusual See more 03/24/2021 Great show but Americans can't stand to see interracial couples or gay people so cbs cancelled the show. Are you crazy? I loved this show, Americans are racists... screw cbs See more 07/05/2020 Sad to see this show was canceled! Love watching Edie Falco! I enjoyed seeing a strong female in charge too! See more 06/29/2020 What I find disappointing about this show is that it's meant to be about a woman taking on a mans role and instead of her using her female name she insists on being called "Tommy" - to me it's telling woman you can only do a job like this if you in some form be like a man. Little sexist, and outdated views. This isn't a mans world and we don't have to emulate them to be successful in this world. See more 05/15/2020 I think the show is boring. Seems like no matter what the case all she has to do is show up and recite a few everything's alright and goody-goody comments and the criminals just fold. It seems that she is just wandering around the office and City accomplishing nothing . Then again it just may be the poor scriptwriters. I liked her spot in The Sopranos but I think she's is miscast in this show . Maybe I'm just used to watching Blue Bloods. See more 05/10/2020 I love how original this series is. It really portrays how Chief's have to play the political game even when it's not their specialty. It's such a shame CBS has canned it. Maybe Netflix will pick it up. See more Read all reviews
