A dismembered body is found in the river, sparking an investigation and a call to Reykjavik for detective reinforcements to assist the small local police force.
With no police support able to arrive from Reykjavik until the snowstorm clears, Andri and his colleagues need to work fast.
The town is still cut off from all help by snowstorms and pack ice, and the local police have somehow managed to lose both the victim's body and the only suspect.
With the murderer still at large, unrest is beginning to grow among the still-trapped townspeople and tourists. The police's list of potential suspects is becoming larger, but with discontent growing and the looming threat of an avalanche above the town, they face a race against time to unravel the mystery.
An avalanche has caused a total blackout, and in the darkness, everyone is anxious and afraid.
Uneasy and agitated, the townspeople gather in the church demanding answers as police chief Andri questions how much he should tell them.
With the weather finally improving, the investigation team from Reykjavik arrives and gets a confession to both murders.
Captain Carlsen agrees to work with the police; on the ferry, one crew member is wanted by police all over Europe.
Andri finds a key that could have serious implications for his whole family.
Andri and Hinrika obtain a confession to the murder of Geirmundur Jansson, and there's more to it than anyone expected.

Jan 02, 2023This is an absolute classic in the making. Really, there is no need to make a list, basically everything is perfect. Characters feel realistic, they make realistic decisions, policemen are not like Sherlock Holmes, they make decisions which are impulsive, rushed, and most importantly-human. I haven't seen a town backstory so fantastically interwoven into the present plot. Also, there are like 4 or more subplots that all interwove into a single point in the final. When you look at it later, you just marvel at it, it is just so brilliant. This is a must watch for gritty and realism grounded detective tv shows fans.

Jul 03, 2022Holy shit how did this rank 100%? So disappointing. Everything about this is meh. Story, acting, dialogue, plot…it's like an unnecessarily long generic TV crime drama with tepid soap opera drama that goes no where. Scenery is great. Could have easily been pared down to 6 episodes. And still would be just ok, but wouldn't take as much time away from watching another Nordic noir more fulfilling.

Jan 25, 2022Really liked it. Visually nicely presented, cold and gritty, nice twists and detective process, however story did feel a bit slow at times. Not sure, perhaps it is meant to be so and that is just a characteristic of the Nordic noire?

Mar 04, 2021Along with The Bridge, it opened the door to Scandinavian noir. Superb.
-
Feb 24, 2021You can feel the cold and the sense of being trapped, but the characters are what make the first season more than watchable.

Dec 09, 2020This was awesome in every way. Overflowing with tension and menace in a gnarly way. It is kinda weird that like 3-4 people are murdered in all of Iceland in a normal year and about that many get it in a week in this small town, but the show was still great. I've noticed the male cops in Nordic noirs all either look like asthmatic lumberjacks or indie rockers with rich parents (and not the cool kind), and this is no exception, but the actors were all great.

Jul 22, 2020When I watch something that fits firmly into a genre, I'm always blown away when it manages to deliver all the things I want from it, and add additional elements which don't detract from the experience. Trapped has great performances, a compelling mystery, and a devastating emotional impact. The device of the avalanche also allows the series creator to generate a powerful atmosphere that's fairly unique. It's tragic and beautiful.
-
Jul 05, 2020A gritty story with many twists-and-turns that builds towards a satisfying ending that leaves no loose ends. The understated, minimalist style of storytelling means I needed more time to figure out what was going on and who was who which ultimately was a welcome change from Hollywood's spoonfeeding.
-
Apr 19, 2020Well-written, well-acted by a fantastic cast, keeps the viewer guessing and totally involved, plus the scenery and camera work are excellent! So glad to have found this series.
-
Apr 05, 2020As a person living in the Southern Hemisphere, I got to learn from watching this; the Iceland economy is exciting to know, and so is its stunning sceneries
