Even without all these promising plot angles, Trapped was worth watching for its chill beauty alone.

Seductive, involving, gripping...I am already, thoroughly, trapped.

Kormakur transcends Nordic Noir cliche with some uniquely Icelandic touches, from majestic Everest-style aerial shots of the icy volcanic landscape to the swelling, droning, unsettling score by...Jóhann Jóhannsson.

I'd say this series pushes that sense of disorientation even further. It's gripping, binge-worthy stuff, though you'll want to watch it with the heating turned right up. And maybe with a compass on hand, too, just to be safe.

Feb 13, 2018 | Full Review…

Trapped is by definition slow-building and chilly, but if you have a taste for the genre, it could be a good Sunday-night alternative to NCIS: Los Angeles or Big Little Lies.

Feb 17, 2017 | Full Review…

Brace yourself, this is a dense, circuitous and rewarding series.

[Ólafur Darri Ólafsson] may not be your typical leading man for such a drama, but he's why you'll keep watching.

It demands attention, but be warned that if you watch the first episode, you're as good as committing another nine binge-style hours of your life to it.

Audience Reviews for Trapped: Season 1

  • Jul 22, 2020
When I watch something that fits firmly into a genre, I'm always blown away when it manages to deliver all the things I want from it, and add additional elements which don't detract from the experience. Trapped has great performances, a compelling mystery, and a devastating emotional impact. The device of the avalanche also allows the series creator to generate a powerful atmosphere that's fairly unique. It's tragic and beautiful.

A gritty story with many twists-and-turns that builds towards a satisfying ending that leaves no loose ends. The understated, minimalist style of storytelling means I needed more time to figure out what was going on and who was who which ultimately was a welcome change from Hollywood's spoonfeeding.
  • Apr 19, 2020
Well-written, well-acted by a fantastic cast, keeps the viewer guessing and totally involved, plus the scenery and camera work are excellent! So glad to have found this series.

As a person living in the Southern Hemisphere, I got to learn from watching this; the Iceland economy is exciting to know, and so is its stunning sceneries

Loved it. Great plot, great actors, funny and exiting to watch. Strong recommendation but skip season 2. Season 2 is like it was written and directed by political campaigners.

Brilliant insights into Icelandic culture with rich narrative across the characters. Love Nordic Noir and this series has not disappointed
  • Jul 20, 2019
    Loved it! Must see!
  • Jul 18, 2019
Seriously good acting, direction, music. A different kind of thriller, doesn't yank you to one side then the other emotionally. No cliche tricks. Just exceptionally good storytelling.
  • May 11, 2019
    Slow-burning, claustrophobic, riveting.
  • Feb 11, 2019
Excellent series. Lets see if season 2 would be also good. By the way, the big star is that island Iceland. Breathtaking natture.
