Critic Reviews for Traps Season 1

All Critics (9) | Top Critics (5)

CBS' "Traps" sounds good on paper - it stars fine actors George C. Scott and Piper Laurie - but on the screen "Traps" proves to be just another Stephen J. Cannell police show, set in Seattle (but shot in Vancouver, B.C.).

Nearly everything else about this uninvolving Stephen J. Cannell cops-getting-in-touch-with-their-feelings series is routine.

The odd-couple casting of George C. Scott with Burger King pitchman Dan Cortese in Traps is stunningly wrong-these two not only don't belong in the same show, they shouldn't inhabit the same universe.

With sharp stories, with [George C.] Scott handed more to do and with [Dan] Cortese's character beginning to know his grandfather, "Traps" could stay on patrol for some time.

In short, there is little original in the conception, and hardly a spontaneous moment in the execution.

The 25-year-old [Dan] Cortese holds his own with Scott, no small feat.

This is not a real cop show, this is a TV cop show. The action is at once predictable and unbelievable.

Jul 24, 2019 | Full Review…

There isn't much chemistry between the stars, but [George C.] Scott and [Dan] Cortese at least hold their own. If the caseload acquires consistent cleverness, Traps may snare a few viewers.

Jul 24, 2019 | Rating: C+ | Full Review…

[George C.] Scott and [Dan] Cortese are trapped in a predictable, sentimental show that explores old-age memory loss and the difficulties of getting over the death of a loved one.
