Trickster is a promising new series that boasts an incredible ensemble of Indigenous actors, a story about Haisla people and the stories they tell.

The supernatural elements are more grounded than in the usual CW fare, and the backdrop of an impoverished community adds unexpected realism. This "Trickster" is worth watching.

There are so many enticing elements in the early Trickster episodes that I'd hope CBC would take the opportunity to move even more Indigenous voices front-and-center - in other words, to continue to amplify what is worthwhile here.

We'll give Trickster points for having a mostly Indigenous cast and writing staff. But the show itself has to become a bit less bleak for us to want to keep watching.

Unlike any horror series in recent memory. It's been compared to Stranger Things, but Trickster is much more unnerving; keep the lights on.

Hugely entertaining, clever and fizzing with energy, the six-episode series is a vivid blend of familiar TV storytelling conventions with a startling dose of spooky Indigenous Gothic.

This is a contemporary indigenous mode of storytelling: mixing the old and the new, a score of terrific artists, excellent actors, a compelling story that is steeped in its culture, a culture that is alive with new faces and voices.

Trickster is the rare story where Indigenous folklore isn't twisted into a thin plot device, but reimagined into a fun teen mystery.
