Andy R @HonestJohn Oct 24 Series 1 wen downhill from episode 1 when they killed off Adrian Lester. Series 2 is no better. The writing is weaker than a cup of tea made with tepid water. Shoddy plotlines and predictable character dialog. Attempted character development ends up in blind alleys and leaves you regretting giving series 2 a go because "well perhaps they have better budget and writing this time around", but no. On the rewatch back-to-back, Series 2 is better than I remember, because of the aforementioned. She is meant to frustrate and annoy - she's antagonistic. It seems to be a curse of ITV productions, that they rarely seem to reach a level of creative, inspired, and truly engaging drama. This is the same. Its an ITV show so has the expected needless "nudging" and tick boxing stereotypes but leaving that aside it moves along at pace with a script which takes some interesting twists and turns. I suspect some of the technical bomb disposal scenes are less than authentic but the special effects are generally good and there is a spectacular and clever ending. Vicky McClure is a class act and she holds it all together surrounded by some mediocre acting and script writing. Watchable but no more. The production values have dipped significantly, melodramatic, with tired dialogue and a general rushed feeling to it. No wonder the Met don't seem to have wanted anything to do with it. But, by episode 5 we enter the same territory occupied by Hot Fuzz 😆 There's a scene with forensics officers that could have been lifted directly from that movie. The panto villain gets killed by a booby trapped cell phone; and two minutes later a 'detective', states with a straight face, "I think someone must have tampered with his phone".
