Truth Seekers: Season 1 (2020)

Season 1
Truth Seekers

Critics Consensus

It may not be as laugh-out-loud funny as Nick Frost and Simon Pegg's previous collaborations, but Truth Seekers is genuinely eerie, balancing out its silly sensibilities with creeping terror and a scary talented cast.

Critic Reviews for Truth Seekers Season 1

All Critics (34) | Top Critics (9)

The first few episodes of "Truth Seekers" are somewhat disappointing, but the acting is strong and there's potential for improvement.

Truth Seekers takes seriously the things it should: its need to throw in a few legitimate scares every so often and the abiding humanity of its characters.

A Ghostbusters-like saga with a stale sense of humor, with only a little more creativity when it comes to the actual spooky stuff.

...a slight and only sporadically amusing effort that lacks the panache and wit of previous pairings of Pegg and Frost.

Truth Seekers has all the charm of a self-deprecating British spin on Stranger Things.

Nov 3, 2020 | Rating: 4/5 | Full Review…

This script rarely gets a chance to flex its comedic chops, even the spooks are few and far between. Don't get me wrong, it has some genius moments in script writing but it fails to keep its smooth consistency.

Very eerie, very funny and very British, its miasmic chills like those of a static caravan that hasn't been aired for a year.

Truth Seekers is an enjoyable walk on the other side.

Nov 11, 2020 | Rating: 3.5/5 | Full Review…

A cheerful enough romp, but one that never makes the most of what it has.

Nov 5, 2020 | Rating: 6.5/10 | Full Review…

Frost makes an appealing comic hero, whose gruff, know-it-all nerdiness barely conceals his loneliness and melancholy, and Gus and Elton have good chemistry as they bust ghosts together.

Nov 2, 2020 | Full Review…

I have a terrible feeling this will wind up as a single season with few questions asked and even fewer answered, a blip of Halloween-themed programming that had big dreams but just couldn't back them up.

Nov 2, 2020 | Full Review…

The magic of Pegg and Frost is alive and well, and Truth Seekers strikes the perfect balance of heart, horror, and humanity. This one is more than worth your time.

Audience Reviews for Truth Seekers: Season 1

I'm 5 episodes in. The series is great so far. I find it very refreshing compared to the bulk of garbage movies and tv shows that I been coming out in recent years.

Here's a terrific comedy series that combines horror. When done right, it's very entertaining and Truth Seekers does not disappoint. Watching Nick Frost, supported by Simon Pegg and Malcolm McDowell, is perfect for what it is. The writing is, I can't find the word, continuously reliable. At no time do I find myself saying, well that could have been written better. When I turn it on I know I'm going to have a laugh every time. For all of us Yanks out there, turn on subtitles. The banter is quick and witty.

low-key but so enjoyable. Binge watched and loved every episode.

Silly horror-comedy serves up laughs and scares - however, it does get a bit repetitive at times.
  • Nov 17, 2020
Pretty light on laughs, but plenty of unnecessary violence. The storytelling is pretty lazy. Cool concept is squandered.

I binged all 8 episodes in one night. It is a fun journey that's extremely well written, and extremely well acted. Twists, and turns, and far more than "just" paranormal shit. I cannot wait to see more, and I give everyone one thousand thumbs up. It's listed as a comedy, but it's so much more. I highly recommend this to anyone (not only fans of Nick Frost and Pegg) and everyone!

Extremely disappointed by this effort (or lack there of)

Simon Pegg & Nick Frost have an eye for quality & I've yet to see anything they've been involved with that I didn't love or at least like
  • Nov 09, 2020
man, i haven't liked anything either of these two have done since Paul 2011. I thought this was going to be drop dead hilarious. It's so stale. Pegg just pops in ever so often with annoying banter. I stopped watching after like three episodes. Just not worth it.

    Solid show, nice cast.
