Two and a Half Men: Season 9 (2011 - 2012)

Season 9
Two and a Half Men

Critics Consensus

Ashton Kutcher proves to be a game replacement for the unceremoniously departed Charlie Sheen, but Two and a Half Men feels exhausted and bitter as it trudges beyond its natural lifespan.

Whether this new dynamic will work is still an open question.

New sheriff, new abs. Now we wait to see if it finds new jokes.

September 19, 2011. The night I actually felt sorry for Charlie Sheen. Never forget.

A cringe-worthy attempt at Chuck Lorre trying to satisfy a childish need to have the final word in one of television's most public feuds.

I like Kutcher, Jon Cryer has always been good, and there's reason to believe year two of this reboot will more creatively consistent

Kutcher brings a softness as well as a sense of rude health to a series that could often be brittle and sour, misanthropic and misogynistic, and temperamentally middle-aged. His presence might allow Cryer to play some sweeter, less strident notes.

Maybe Two and a Half Men has simply lost its luster in the wake of Sheen-gate. Its departed star cast a huge, tiger-blood-shaped shadow - which is probably why the show is determined to keep airing plots that revolve around the absent Charlie.

I realized that Ashton Kutcher is actually too good for this material. Then I splashed some cold water on my face, but the thought was still there.

Audience Reviews for Two and a Half Men: Season 9

  • Apr 26, 2019
(all seasons) You can tell by watching Season 1 why this was a hit: a catchy premise, great cast and snappy dialogue contributing to a very enjoyable laugh-fest characterized by remarkable consistency. Even more remarkably, the above goes on for a whopping 8 seasons. Yet, things take an unfortunate turn for the worse after that, ranging - occasional refreshing glimpses aside - from the average yet watchable to the completely formulaic and below-par, and culminating with the ill-advised "meta" finale. Winning?

    This season is completely unnecessary.

The opening 10 episodes are tolerable but after that the show just slowly declines in humour and decency. Two and a Half Men has changed and not for the better.
