Tv Season Info

The first season of this multi-camera sitcom follows a group of friends in a Detroit-based bar as they navigate through their lives as single men. Danny Burton (Chris D'Elia) is a confident bachelor in his mid-30s who finds himself in search of a new roommate after his current one moves out to get married. Danny, who is content with his commitment-free lifestyle consisting of random hook-ups, meets a bar owner named Justin (Brent Morin) whose reserved, polite nature perpetually places him in the "friend zone" when it comes to dating. Danny and Justin quickly hit it off and become roommates, and Danny vows to assist Justin and his romantically-challenged friends at the bar gain the skills and charm necessary to pick up women. Brett (David Fynn) is a bartender at Justin's establishment, Black Eyes, who recently came out of the closet and must now acclimate to his sexual identity being public; Burski (Rick Glassman) is a nerdy regular at the bar who becomes enamored with Danny's sister, Leslie (Bianca Kajlich); Shelly (Ron Funches) is Justin and Danny's eccentric friend who lives at the bar; and Nicki (Briga Heelan) is a bartender that Justin becomes infatuated with. Tom Cavanagh makes a guest appearance.

Amid the dated material and the forced efforts to create catchphrases on "Undateable," there is some skill in evidence.

Undateable airs in times when summer series aren't always the throwaways they used to be. This may not be a keeper but it may well grow on viewers rather than wear on them. Hey, you weren't expecting another Seinfeld. Right?

Amusing, dumb, silly -- exactly what you'd expect.

NBC's new sitcom Undateable is full of paper-thin characters who barely thicken in the course of the first six episodes.

There's no one to care about, no laughs, and nothing that you haven't seen before.

While it comes out of the gate a bit slow with a premise that feels tired, over the course of several episodes it succeeds in embracing its more unique qualities, blossoming into something far more interesting.

Strong sexual overtones dominate mediocre comedy.

The summer misses keep on coming as NBC rolls out the disappointing sitcom Undateable, which some viewers will no doubt find unwatchable (sorry, the title begged for it).

Jun 2, 2014 | Full Review…

Undateable is a bit broad in the early going, but relatively quickly, the comedy establishes itself as the kind of amiable, sweet-and-sour, well-acted ensemble piece you'd expect from Bill Lawrence.

Do we honestly need another show in which all the men are varying degrees of moronic, especially the wise-cracking, rigorously immature lead?
