Tv Season Info

The often-laughable challenge of juggling work and family life for new parents is explored in this sitcom modeled after creator Emily Spivey's real-life experiences as a writer for "Saturday Night Live." Comedy veterans Christina Applegate and Will Arnett are Reagan and Chris, whose lives are turned upside down with the arrival of baby Amy. As a producer for the talk show "Ava" (hosted by SNL alum Maya Rudolph), Reagan's crazy hours force ex-lawyer Chris into the Mr. Mom role, while the pair helplessly try to maintain normalcy in the bedroom and with friends and overbearing relatives. When not changing diapers, Chris bounces ideas off neighbor Reed (Will Forte), while he and Reagan go overboard to befriend a really "fun" couple (Nat Faxon and Ben Falcone) who move in nearby. Alanis Morissette and Stevie Nicks (as Reagan and Ava's dream guest) make Season 1 cameos.

Skilled as Applegate, Arnett and Rudolph are at making us laugh, they need dimension. If that doesn't develop, "Up All Night" could have the cutest baby and the funniest diaper jokes in the world and we still wouldn't stick around.

The show's go-to jokes are pop culture references and ironic twists on pop culture references, which might be funny if they weren't so abundant and so obviously a tool to demonstrate how tapped-in our characters are.

Sitcom vets Arnett and Applegate have no problem generating laughs.

Rarely does a family sitcom actually focus on the realities of parenting, especially when an infant is involved. Up All Night bucks that trend by putting the responsibility and burden of the job center stage.
