Interesting concept. The characters (especially lead character) aren't likeable to root for. What keeps the show going is the concept and use of new "technologies" that are interesting enough to keep watching if you have nothing better going on.

Mikey's TV Review: Upload (2020) After a serious car crash handsome, narcissistic, programmer Nathan Brown (Robbie Amell) is about to die. Fortunately he has two option - take a chance on risky surgery to repair his puntured lungs or have his consciousness uploaded into a virtual Heaven. Thankfully his wealthy, beauty obsessed, controlling girlfriend Ingrid Kannerman (Allegra Edwards) makes that decision for him. Before he can seriously think about the consequences, Nathan has agreed to the terms and conditions (without reading them!), his head is vapourised, his body put on ice and Ingrid has ownership of his death! Upon arrival at Lake View (a digital hotel catered for the super rich), he is greeted by Nora Antony (Andy Allo), his 'Angel'. A lonely avatar editor, struggling financially and trying to persuade her traditionally religious father about the benefits of this new afterlife. As this new friendship blossoms, Nora and Nathan find themselves bonding as they never could/can in the real word. Prompting deeper questions about love, the soul, belief, money and power, and leading to the discovery that someone may have actually murdered Nathan to bury his creation - a free virtual Heaven available to all... Greg Daniel's (show runner of 'The Office' (US) whip smart dramedy perfectly balances the 'what is?' with the 'what could be?,' in an engaging, darkly funny show ideal for binging. This sci-fi horror is paradoxically labeled as a comedy. A man is uploaded to hell, and there aren't jokes. It is a good horror. Some are describing it as satire, but the show depicts only exactly what would happen in the event this technology existed under capitalism. So the depictions are horrifying rather than satirical. It's enjoyably reminiscent of Philip K. Dick.
