An improvement. The special effects aren't George Lucas, but they're superior to the original, ranging now from chintzy to impressive. The script is better. Marco L @decatur555 Apr 19 V remains one of those landmark TV events that hit harder than its age might suggest. Yes, it shows its era in places, but the special effects were impressive for an early-1980s television production, the Visitors were instantly iconic, and the mix of spectacle, paranoia, and resistance still works. What gives it extra weight is that it was never just about alien invasion. Underneath the sci-fi surface, it plays as a strong allegory of fascism, propaganda, occupation, and collaboration. That political layer gives the adventure real substance. It may lose some of the childhood magic when you revisit it as an adult, but the emotional memory remains powerful.
