May 3, 2016
The familiar cast of gargoyles have retained an obsession with the rectal that reeks of the 18th century, but also of the production line: jokes manufactured with machine-tooled efficiency.

Throughout, Louis-Dreyfus is stunningly good, seamlessly shifting from verbal to physical humour. But it's the sheer beauty of the profanity and insults that is dazzling. In the arena of insult comedy and satire, the show is a towering achievement.

The election may be deadlocked, but already, Season 5 looks like a winner.

Showrunner David Mandel stays true to the sarcastic, unmerciful heart of the series and in doing so, sets the stage for what should be another entertaining and memorable season.

Led by Louis-Dreyfus at the height of her powers, this is a show that makes palate-cleansers of the bare-knuckled, real-life characters trying to gouge and kick their way into the Oval Office. But it's OK. Go ahead and laugh.
