News & Interviews for Victoria: Season 1
Sumptuous production - some historic liberties taken - and Coleman is terrific.
Coleman, fitted with blue contact lenses that make her eyes pop (in a good way), makes an enchanting young queen, and Sewell gives off more heat than any prime minister has a right to.
Coleman and Hughes make a captivating team. The passion invigorates a production too often fixated on pageantry and parties.
The stage has been set for some truly excellent television in the coming weeks.
For fans of flouncy skirts, romantic skirmishes in palaces, silk waistcoats and handsome English actors, Masterpiece's royal diversion may be hard to resist.
PBS' Victoria has all the ingredients of a long-running dramatic series. Call this one Buckingham Abbey.
Victoria arrives in the United States with much of what we want in a period piece: gorgeous costumes... drama of epic proportions and creative licenses taken with real history in the name of good television.
Coleman is as charismatic as ever, the sets and costumes are gorgeous but unfortunately Victoria doesn't have the soapy appeal of Julian Fellowes Downton Abbey or the sumptuous elegance of Andrew Davis' best .
Coleman's terrific performance is the main reason to tune in. From the moment she first appears on screen, waking to the news that she is queen while still surrounded by dolls and her pet pooch Dash, she is fascinating to watch.
Moving nicely from TARDIS to palace, Jenna Coleman in the title role combined wide-eyed innocence with an independence and hints at a steelier impetuosity that delivered well in this opening episode.

Jul 12, 2019a well done historical drama mostly accurate
Jul 10, 2019This is so much better than I expected. Jenna Coleman is miraculous. I don't know how faithful it is to reality, I just accept it on its own terms.
Mar 31, 2019The early life of Queen Victoria, from her ascension to the throne at the tender age of 18 to her courtship and marriage to Prince Albert.Jenna Coleman is always amazing. Tom Hughes as Prince Albert is excellent as well . What's more entertaining than being transported back into history . A Masterpiece production well at home in PBS .
Mar 02, 2019Loved it, cant wait to watch season 2
Feb 28, 2019The most boring Masterpiece series developed.

Jun 27, 2018TOOK A COUPLE OF EPISODES TO HIT THE MARK AND SOME OF ITS CHARACTERIZATIONS WERE A BIT ONE DIMENSIONAL BUT OVERALL A SOLID ADDITION TO THE WORLD OF COSTUME. jENNA cOLEMAN MAKES AN EXCELLENT qv AND AS EVER ADDITION TO DETAIL AND GREAT LOCATION ADD IT THE MIX.
Mar 19, 2018Just like The Crown covers Queen Elizabeth II's life throughout her reign, this series covers Queen Victoria's. It almost looks like they are twin series full of drama, romance, politics and good historical accuracy. The first season covers the early life of Queen Victoria, from her ascension to the throne at the tender age of 18 to her courtship and marriage to Prince Albert
